For Sale: Porsche 928 Manual Transmission Conversion Kit
Update: I've got the pallet on the scales and everything weighs in at 390lbs. Everything will fit on a 48" x 40" pallet. Shipping via UPS Freight from zip 21784. Whole set-up goes up on Ebay Monday night. Rennlister price: $500 for EVERYHTING.
Rennlisters: Here’s the story: I’ve parted out my 1979 Euro but kept all of the manual parts together down to the last nut and bolt; I’ve even cut the firewall to include the mount for the clutch master cylinder. I figured someone who wants to convert their auto might be able to use all the parts together rather than selling everything separately. This is probably the most complete manual transmission conversion kit you’re going to find outside of buying a complete car. The transaxle is from a 1979 Euro (sorry, not an LSD). I’m offering it to my fellow Rennisters before it goes on Ebay. Here is What’s Included:
•Complete ’79 Euro transaxle with half shaft bolts
•Rear cross member with hardware
•Complete torque tube with shifter assembly, couplers and front and rear mounting bolts for the transaxle and the belhousing (torque tube center shaft spins freely with no play)
•Complete belhousing (top and bottom sections) with hardware
•Complete clutch, pressure plate, shaft & flywheel with all hardware
•Clutch fork assembly with master cylinder and fire wall cylinder mounting plate
•Complete pedal assembly including the clutch and brake pedal and all hardware
Due to the size and weight of the parts, I’d like to see avoid shipping if possible. My first choice would be a Rennlister who could pick-up the parts. If no one local can use the parts, I’ll consider shipping since I have everything on a pallet. Parts are located in Sykesville, MD 21784. $500 takes everything. Send me a PM if interested. Thanks, Bill

Early cars, up until around 1984, also have different sheet metal around the transmission ((between the rear seats).
The automatic was much larger than the manual, which they didn't account for initially. So they made two different sets of sheet metal, rear seats, etc. until later.

Ryan, I hope that you are not planning to put a very early transmission into the '90. In my opinion, that would make the car unsellable...

This is a very good deal. I've seen a few 'kits' like this sell on ebay for $1000+ without the transaxle or torque tube.
IIRC the change was somewhere between 80 and 83, probably 83 when a lot of other drivetrain changes were made. All 84s have the large hump.
Wally, 5-speed without PSD would be worth the less tolerant synchros.

I would be interested in everything BUT the transmission
but i believe the early torque tube is different, not sure though.
I would just prefer to buy everything, clean it up and resell what i didnt need. The pedals, torque tube and lower cross member are of interest to me, as is the flywheel and clutch setup and lower bellhousing.
