exclamation Light came on...but no warning on my pod??
Hello,
I have been recently working on my '87. I've installed the stainless steel break lines, fixed a clutch leak, replace the timing belt (tensioned by the 928INTL aftermarket tool) and installed a rebuilt water pump.
I recently noticed that the exclamation button stays illuminated and does not turn off by pushing the button. The funny thing is there's no warning in my dash, not even the exclamation in the pod.
Is this a short of some kind or what is the problem when I get no warning in my pod, but the exclamation button stays illuminated AND won't turn off.
What should I be doing here that I'm not doing right?
Thank you ahead of time for any information.
-Andrew

Possibles to throw on the pile that is sure to follow.
1. When you did the belt did you mess with the tension warn sensor. Did you accidently or otherwise reroute the sensor wires.
2. Some of the pod WARN dialog lights on my 82 are green. I guess this would indicate a non-critical problem - the ! should clear though-.
3. I believe -guru's jump in here- that if the
O2 sensor is toast it will not clear.
On Sat. and Sun I had my sHARk up on a curb and wheel ramps so I could work underneath.
Pulled the batt., cleaned, topped off, and trickle charged for 2 days. Changed Main alt/batt. lead, batt. ground and engine chassis ground. Replaced 4 smoky looking fuses.
Cleaned and tightened every electrical connection under the car including the headlight washer pump behind the spoiler grill. When I hooked up the battery and backed off the ramps I was blinded!
I think every warn and caution light on the car was lit up!!!! BTW Did you chnge the thermostat?
Good luck. I hate sparks.

Is it intermitent or is it constant?
My experence is that when a sensor tell the central alarm unit somethings wrong, the "!" says lit, even if the connection fixs it'self.
I've got a tail light that is flacky. Sometimes it'll act like it's out. The central warning light will light up. Then the car will get bumped, and the tail light will reconnect it's self. The specific "stop light" warning light goes out, but the "!" light stays lit.
In the one of the areas where you were working, I belive there are two brake sensors. If they disagree or give out bad readings, the "!" comes on. The "!" won't go off. If it's intermitant, it could easily be like my tail light. They're located under the master cylinder.

Yes...
The battery.
I have had the same problem before.
When you have a "critical" problem with the "flashing" exclamation point, the computer needs to be reset. The idea is that if it is a critical problem, you need to get it to the dealer, not just hit the "reset" button. So it stays on, until the problem is fixed, and the computer reset. So, if you fixed the problem yourself, there will no longer be a warning indication, but the light will stay on.
Sometimes unhooking the battery for a while,
and then hooking it back up later, will reset the system...
Perhaps someone with more expertise will tell you how to reset the system. If not, try the battery thing...

Before you start chasing this gremlin...
Check that all of your Pod lights indicate all of the sensors that feed into the ! light using the Owners Manual.
Could be that you have a small light burned out in your Pod that isn't telling you what the problem is.
Just a thought...

Shouldn't all the warning lights in the pod come on when you turn the key to the first position? The burned out light would be obvious then, if there is a burned out light... - Ruf

Mine comes on every time I exceed 70 miles per hour.
I push the red button in the center of the dash and it stays out until next I start the 89 Porsche 928 and exceed 70 MPH.
I wonder if I can set it for 75 or 80?
