reversing lights 928 A-T -79
Hello
My name is Lars, and I am from Norway. A friend of my have a -79 928 with Automatic transmision. We have a problem with the reverse light, they do not work. Can anybody tell me where the reverse light switch is? Is there a common "mistake" on these cars?
Sorry for bad english

it is on the transmission...right where the shift cable attaches. It is a Mercedes part. the wiring harness goes up into the spare tire well and there is a plug in connector there. The switch also sends a signal to the neutral safety relay to allow it to only start in park or neutral.

Not sure about the 78, but in later years, there is a relay that activates the reversing lights.
There are diagrams of the Central Electrical Panel (CE panel) here on the forum if you don't have one.

Reverse Light Switch on the Transmission?
Can anyone please post a picture of the reverse light switch on a 928 5 speed
Please indicate where the Reverse Light Switch is on this 928 manual transmission?
Mine is a 1980.
Is it this part(blue circle)? This is a 944 transmission. Would it be in a similar place for a 928? Is it called a "reverse light switch?"
Is this the part for the 928 that will turn on my rear back up lights when my 1980 5 speed is put into reverse?
If i jack up the Shark is this readily accessible and replaceable? Any particular torque?

Before you replace the switch test it in all likelihood the switch is good and it’s a wiring issue you can test from the spare tire well put the trans in reverse then test the wires for continuity
Note if the 2 pin connector has come off of the steering column switch then the reverse lights won’t work
This switch is between the key cylinder and the steering column you can see it by looking up under the pod after you remove the trim
