Default Autozone Power Steering Rack

Hi, my steering rack has sprung a leak, and while I know they are rebuildable, after this summers turbo project my wife has minimal patience for long garage days and I'm ready to just drive the car for a bit. Came across what seems like a very good deal for a rebuilt rack from Autozone (seems odd I know), has anyone used these and have they been reliable?

Thanks in advance!

Make sure they actually have stock before pulling the rack. People have used them with mixed results. You can rebuild the rack in a day.

Several years ago, I did the rebuilt autozone rack and have not had any problems. However, I thought they started rebuilding the racks differently after I got mine. Different re-builder or something like that. Past experience may be different than more recent experiences.

I tried to rebuild the rack but didn't have the ability to get the rack apart so I did the autozone rack. The way I looked at it with the warranty, it was low risk. Even if I had to replace the rack again, it was easier than the rebuild because I was having so much trouble getting the rack apart.

I stopped in my local Autozone and asked about the rack. They said they were special order but in stock at the warehouses. 2-3 day lead time and you had to pay for it up front.

I rebuilt mine. It's really not that bad. I spent most of the time cleaning and re-cleaning things. Went through a roll of blue towels, easy.

If you search through the other threads on this topic, lots of comments about getting a number of bad racks before getting a good one.

If you have a 'good' one, rebuild it.

I bought the rebuilt one and it has been trouble free for about 2 years.

My rebuilt autozone rack has been fine as well.

The first one was garbage though, they replaced it and now fine.

Thanks for all the replies, could you tell the rack was bad before installing or did it go back once in use?

No visual indicators it was bad, however once installed it leaked worse than the original. They stood behind it and all is good with the second one.

Which rack did you buy? They offer two. One is a duralast rebuilt and the other company rebuilt is $100 more.

There was only one at the time and I believe it was a duralast.
