Default Vanagon turn signal switch on early 944?

Has anyone ever tried this? It looks very similar to the stock turn signal switch but is much more readily available new. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volkswagen-V...dad974&vxp=mtr

Wouldn't you need the wiper stalk also, or is there a way to use the existing stalk?

Same part here, $15 cheaper?

Just FYI: Don't buy URO parts' garbage. They have openly admitted that their parts are made to sub-par standards to reduce prices. I tried a couple of URO parts items and they both failed very quickly. I've read many similar reports online.

Meyle is known to be a parts re-packager, and while sometimes the original brand is a good one, more often it's a mediocre one. But they're still better than URO parts.

When mine went bad, I put in a used one.

Well, I haven't had much luck with used ones actually functioning fully. Especially for early cars, almost all the interior parts are 30+ years old now.

make sure you swipe them Vanagon window motors off.

that goes for the 944s at the scrapyard too.

contact every body shop in the lower 48....

you can easily offset the cost of ownership with these parts.

Yeah, I did get one bad one before I got a good one.

There is also Sunset Imports for genuine Porsche parts. Probably under $100.

Hi Konakat,
agree with FRporscheman. My friends and I have tried URO parts and found them to be sub standard. Meyle is only slightly better.
You might want to try to source from a VW outlet, our cars use some VW Golf parts ( I think US cars are referred to as Rabbits) , IIRC the part number may start with 477...........

Why don't we try the cheapo vanagon part just to see if it works, then if it does, we can price it out from the VW dealer? It might be a lot less than the Porsche dealer!

Default Success!

Got the Vanagon turn signal switch for Christmas. It is an absolute perfect, drop-in replacement. All of the contacts, clips, mounts, etc are exactly the same as stock so you can just attach it to your existing wiper switch and go. Turn signals, high beams, and horn are working beautifully. It's funny how satisfying it is to have a nice solid click turn off your signal after going around turn instead of having to remember to do it yourself.

I haven't compared it to a stock no-cruise stalk yet to see if it is from the same mold, but the length and position are fine some I'm not too worried about that either way. I am also curious to see if the Vanagon wiper switch will be a good drop-in replacement since this one was identical.

This got me to thinking.... Just what will interchange with the 944's and VW. I found this, http://members.rennlist.org/dan10101...NTERCHANGE.doc. I also believe this turn signal switch will work too, [URL="http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=360123367984"], and it has the right lever that the 944 had w/o cruise. I'm tempted to buy and take a chance!
