Default Curing the Hatch Rattle Syndrome

Since I have owned my 951 the hatch has always rattled. It was unbearable. At one point last year I quit driving the car, because it was so loud. I tried adjusting my pins first, then I did a quick fix for the separation. Neither of these fixed the issue. Also after adjusting the pins my hatch became harder to open. After looking for a place to completely reseal my rear hatch, I finally found one. They came to my house and cut the glass out, cleaned it, primed it, and resealed the entire thing. I let it sit in my garage for about 1 week to make sure the sealant would dry correctly.

My first test drive, I noticed one thing THE RATTLES. I was thinking WTF could be the cause. I had done all the fixes out there, then I remembered reading a post about a new fix. It was a replacement for Hatch Pin seats.

I installed these last night and now I have 0 rattles from the rear end of my car. The improvement is amazing. When I was cleaning the latches almost all of the hatch pin seat was gone. it was metal on metal. After a through cleaning with brake cleaner I installed the seats. They fit perfect the first time. I readjusted the latches and all has been great since. My hatch no longer rattles. It even opens a bit easier now.

If you have a hatch that rattles get these seats. It took about 1 hour start to finish to install them and it was time well spent. My car sounds so much more solid now.

Good find!

I typically replace the entire latch assembly as most of them are pretty sticky mechanisms. You can lube them and they work ok for awhile, but eventually start sticking again. Just ordered a set last week, they retail for $38.23 each for the full latch assembly.

I thought about replacing the entire assembly, but mine still worked great after I cleaned them up.

Personally, one of my hatch pin receivers has completely seized and seems to need to be replaced.
It's a fairly low priority for me at the moment though - my engine is currently hanging from a shop crane and is about to be put onto a stand, to allow me to replace all the seals in it.

sometimes the hatch rattle is caused by the plastic cover of the rear wiper motor.

My problem has been the pins getting seized with rust. I wish someone would sell a replacement square nut for inside the pin holder (where the pin threads into).

Those new seats look nice - I've been meaning to buy a set.

I am the same way now. I have some sort of rattle in my passenger door. If I put pressure on the inside handle it stops completely. I also have a squeak noise coming from my hinges on the sunroof.

The tip of the inside door handle has a stud that goes through the panel. On the other side of the panel, a metal bracket is secured to the stud with a nut, and this acts like a hook that slips into a slit in the metal door frame. The bracket should have padding on it, but if it's gone, it can rattle.

Just ordered a set thanks. I have a perfect hatch and can't figure out were the small rattle is coming from. It doesn't happen when the car is cold but surfaces when the sun hits the hatch for awhile.

So I need to get the door panel off?
