Replace the 944 oil drive gear sleeve on the front of crankshaft?
My 1984 944 is leaking oil from the front crankshaft seal.
I plan to replace the belts seals etc.
Should I replace the oil pump drive gear sleeve as well???

A grove will eventually wear into the drive sleeve from riding up against the oil seal, this is usually what causes the oil leak. In other words, just replace it!

Unless you want oil leaks to continue, every time you replace any of the front seals, you should replace the sleeves they ride on.

Replace if you show any wear.
Top is new bottom 2 both show wear.
Do not forget to install the green "O" ring in front of the drive gear.

WYIT (while you're in there) is always the mantra on these cars. If you've got access to other things while you're replacing a single thing, take advantage of the opportunity to change other things that may be worn while you're in there, i.e., belts, water pump, balance shaft seals, camshaft seals, etc. Getting the front crank pulley off to replace the seal and pump sleeve requires a long handle to break loose the nut (150 ft lbs). A long piece of pipe over the wrench handle should do it (or go to rent-a-gorilla)

Yep, I just did belts, rollers, water pump, balance shaft seals, front main seal and oil pump drive gear on my car.
About $500 in parts, but I want to keep it in good health.

Can't get oil pump gear off end of crank!!!
Any suggestions for getting this gear off the end of the crank? I can get it to slide out to the end of the crank but it won't budge any further. I read where someone applied some heat to it, via heat gun, not torch. I was thinking maybe I could get a small gear puller as well.
