loctite 574 instead of oil sump gasket on 944
My dealership shop said that they use loctite 574 (orange) in lieu of regular gaskets as an approved seal when reinstalling the sump pan. I have a leak around the area of the crank and he believes it may be the rear sump seal since it continues to drip oil quite a while after the engine is shut down. I hope he's right vs a full blown teardown of the drive train for a rear crank seal replacment. My issue right now is if the loctite 574, which is recommended for joining engine case halves is an accepted procedure? Please reply to:

I find that hard to believe. The gasket for the sump is quite thick and even has metal inserts to prevent over-tightening. It also has the semi-circle ends molded in as part of the gasket. 574 is used where two very flat machined surfaces mate (like the main bearing girdle, balance shaft covers, etc.). I think it's asking for trouble...
