Default oil is gone and is in my Coolant! yay!!***UPDATED..PICS**

so i just got done repainting my car, pulled the motor new motor mounts painted engine bay. yata yata. well i drive it for a solid day and it was amazing!

at the end of the day about 50 degrees out. my car gets really hot and over heats.

next day pop open the coolant tank cap and brown/ tan looking GOO everywhere.

i flushed it all out took forever! then drove the car and was great for the next 2 days. and then today 20 mins ago it happened again.

so im assuming. all of my oil is in my coolant. and im about to cry. my car got into a nasty wreck 3 months ago. and then two days after its painted and on the road its dead. and then runs good and then dead again. i really dont need this kind of stress right now.

heres the car

Good to hear that you got all the body stuff fixed, sorry to hear about the HG... look on the bright side, you can send the cam tower out for powdercoating for more customization while you have it all apart

hey man looks great!... seems to be a head gasket, usually that's the deal with these things... you could probably try a headgasket repair sometimes they work. I know I put one in a 944 and it fixed it, I sold it but it was running fine for 30k miles without another headgasket leak.

Overall the best method is to replace it but if you dont have time and money, could be worth the 10-20bucks for a liquid repair.

And it doesn't take that much time changing the gasket

As someone who has their engine apart for a head gasket (88 N/A) I can attest to the simplicity of the repair..

I can also attest to the cost associated, and the lure of the "while in there" bug..

and should in a day or so have the cost nailed for full cost (waiting for head rebuild to be finished by Porsche shop IMA Motorsport, and full PS line rebuild by a professional hydraulics shop...)

Full time vested, maybe 8 hours.. cost to date of "while in there" and HG projects... $1200 give or take plus head rebuild, plus PS line rebuild...

It CAN be done cheaper.. but I am tired of fluid leaks, and other small issues, so I am resolving all of them at one time... so I can enjoy the car while I decide if I am selling her to pick up a 996...

Full list of projects:
PS Rack rebuild
PS pump mount replacement (got used from fellow lister)
Front end reseal
cam tower reseal
HG replacement
Head rebuild
Trans mount replacement
new TB
new BS belt
trans output shaft seal replacement
fuel tank cleaning / new pickup filter / new in line filter
new injectors
rear wheel bearing replacement (already done)
new coolant tank

once completed, there will not be a part of the car I have not touched / worked on / replaced parts on... not a one...

I hope so I've spent a little over 8k in my 944 in the past two years. I for saw something really crazy happening. I hope to have it all done and put back together by this weekend.

But is having oil in the coolant a common thing? Is there any other explanation to this?

Thanks for the kind words guys I'll post more pics of her tomorrow if you like.

are you sure it's the head gasket and not the oil cooler? dougs951 can attest to the horrors of an oil cooler seal/gaskets going bad and causing nasty milkshake

Pull a compression check before removing the head as it could be the oil cooler seals shot. After flushing the water system out use some seafoam and flush that out. You'll have to keep flushing several times to get all the crud out of the system. Do you have water in the oil?

Cheers,
Larry

No water in the oil. And I don't have an our cooler. So I'm assuming I don't have that seal. I'm just loose all oil pressure and I can open my oil pan bolt up and maybe a quart or two of oil is left in the motor the rest is in the coolant. But not coolant in the oil. Someone said something about a Oil pressure release valve? Can this go bad and cause my problem?

Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate all the help!!

Thanks Keith! That gives me hope man! I pray that is the problem. Does it make a difference that I ran the car for a day without my oil pressure regulator was hog unplugged and my gauge was going nuts? But I'll check into this and see If paragon or pelican has this kit.

Thanks again guys!

Mike
