those look like pre-poduction models. I think i can make out a stock intake manifold on the green car so it could be the standard 2l engine.
I like how the hatches are colour-coded though

This was in a you tube video which is sort of a 924-944 history slideshow with really bad music (LINK). I'd never seen it before, but I assume it's a concept drawing for the 924...
