Default Performance Chip for a 1988 924S

MY UK spec 1988 924S ( 160bhp) has the option M150 from factory - runs on leaded fuel ( no catalyst)

I wonder if it worth investigating any performance chips and if any of them chips in the market will make any difference to my car. I don't wish to change the air system or anything else bw , my car is 100% stock minus the throttle response cam but wonder if anyone has any knowledge of any chips that would make a difference in a non cat 1988 924S and what this difference would be etc..... i wouldnt mind a bit of extra bhp / torque but not if any risks are involved etc .

contact this rennlist user...he knows a tuning shop capable of tuning the 944 DME.
he is based in UK, maybe they can make a chip for you?

alternatively there is augment automotive in the UK who sells chips too.

most of the chips over the years have been for US-market cars since they were de-tuned vs the euro stuff.

www.maxhpkit.com or some such. Russ did the chip for my 911. I actually have the first Multiboard he sent out. Transformed my car. Ask V2 or Odurandino

Coming back to this, I believe the 1988 model was a "world engine" where there wasn't any difference in output/tuning US vs RoW/Europe.
Although I guess your lack of a cat (do you have an oxygen sensor?) may still change things.

But you would probably be fine getting "any" chip for a 1988 model.

Complete waste of money in a normally-aspirated engine. Which is not to say that if you drop a hundred quid on a chip, your highly subjective experience won't be that the car goes a hundred quid faster. Placebos are wonderful things.

My opinions come from putting actual cars on actual dynos. I have nothing to sell.

Disagree - not a complete waste of money but something we can argue about. Have a FR Wilk chip in my 1988 and it truly makes a difference. More responsive, revs up faster and therefore feels and performs better. It probably won't be much on a dyno but to me it was well worth the money. Just a couple hundred $$$ at the most...

Always depends on engine type and fuel grade!

From what I've heard and read on forums (Uk & USA) the generic Chips have very little effect on paper & dyno sheets but most people that fit them claim they feel better or different sometimes the two are confused.

However a Live Mapping session to fine tune the car in it's existing state and with readily available fuel like we have in the UK (99 Octane) would result with more power and Torque.

I had this done and the Final results were very good @ 205 (bhp & Ft lbs) all on stock Ignition, AFM, & Fueling on a Lindsey Racing 2.7 with a Web 274 Camshaft. The first figure was 179bhp, so 26bhp was found.

This service seems to be quite rare that many know how to do this, or care to do it on the old Porsches , but it's not as cheap as a chip, but would cost approx $400- $500
