Default 1977 martini edition should I buy it????

Hi: I am new to this forum and to Porsche. But not new to bmw or mb.
I have a chance to buy a 77 competition edition and the owner is asking 2k.
The car will not start, because of a fuel line leak??? and the interior is not in very good shape.
I have been doing some research this week and it seems I will not be able to get the material for the inside seats...the red material not the black plastic. Is this true? The strips seem to be available for about 200.00.
Car has had a lot of parts put on, including a new fuel distributor.
Other question. If fixed up running and cleaned up, would this car sell for more than maybe 2k? I am not talking a 'restoration' just make it look nice, fix a few things and drive it for awhile before it gets sold....this would not be a long term project. Well, unless I find it is something I want to keep.
Any help would be great.

For 2k I would expect it to be near mint for a NA 924 2.0. Even if you had a mint one selling it for 2k would be tough. Well, put it this way: with any Porsche it is just about impossible to sell it for more than you have put into it. Unless it is some rare car that is appreciating like a 924 Carrera GT, or maybe one of the 16 924 SCCA D-prod cars, then, no.

For one that doesn't start, I would start the offer at 200. There might be some rust as the early ones weren't fully galvanized. They were mostly galvanized, however the front fenders weren't, and maybe the roof also?

The Martini Edition was only cosmetics I believe. White, with a Martini stripe and a red/black interior. While the white was available on a regular 924, the red/black interior wasn't I think. A lot of older Porsche fabrics are hard to find.

To get a lot more input, try posting over on www.924board.org . You can also try PelicanParts, but 924board has the most discussion about the early 924s.

BTW, from your username, do you have a BMW 2002?

The cars are a lot of fun, so maybe keep it! Good luck.

Take care!

Default thanks for the reply

Thanks, I was afraid this car might not be worth much.
Yes, I did have a 2002, a beautiful 73. I am working on a m535 right now

YES you should!!

I am resorting/restoring a 1977 Martini & Rossi.

You can get a complete OEM interior from www.werk924.com
while there prices are not cheap, there stuff is good. I have ordered from them before for my car.

price really depends on your location
2k for a 924 is expensive in south of US but here in canada is usually a bargain
then again, I would not buy a porsche that doesn't start and i can't drive home.
