Talking Score :)

I went to the junkyard and there was a 1969 911 targa. I got the master break cylinder. It is the 19mm version on those cars right? If so it's great. I go there so much I didn't even have to pay for it.

Thumbs down

Installing a used master cylinder is a bad idea.

Save your money and buy a brand new one.
I wouldn't even recommend rebuilding one, since all you'll save is about 50 bucks max and it's a PITA of a job.

Weird thing I realized. You know how the cylinder are coated with this black stuff. The 17mm one from my 914 is all brown and rusty, drity etc. and the nuts for the brake lines were all very tight. Now, the one I pirated from the 911 was still very clean no blemishes and the nuts came off easy, even though the bellypan was pretty rusted out and stuff. Maybe this one is newer than the car?

Hi

Mike is right, I got a free 19mm just like you installed it and after a couple of days it leaked at the pedal cluster. If you ever changed the master you know that tose F****** grommets are hard to put in, so if you want to upgrade go with a new one. Remember going with a 19mm with stock brakes will make pedal travel shorter and you will apply more force for the same amount of braking. If your braking system has other problems this won't fix it.
