I think we have some pretty basic questions here.

Why do you want increased performance? What are you willing to give up to get this performance.

Stripping out the interior will reduce the weight and make the car marginally fast. The downside is it will look crappy and the noise levels will be bad on the street. If you want a track car that's fine.

A louder exhaust and different air filters will make the car sound faster. That's not all bad.

My own car has gone from Street to Track and back to Street. I've loved all the variations. Keep in mind there is nothing you can do to a Porsche that's cheap.

I have also instructed at track events, and there is a valid point to be made about learning to drive better, and therefore faster. That learning should happen at the TRACK, not in the canyons.

It's absolutely true that a lot of guys think they need more power, but really it's only going to cover up for a lack of real driving experience. I know this because I've been that guy.

It doesn't mean you can't enjoy your car on the street; it does mean you should learn to push it in a SAFE environment.

Bottom line, it's not my car -- make it faster if you want to!

To answer the question about the light that is in place of the clock....it's the alternator warning light. when the fan stops spinning that light comes on. It can be found at Patrick Motorsports, but I got mine at TRE.

I don't have time now to list all the "Delete" items, but let your imagination run wild.

A lot of what I did was to backdate. for example I swapped in manual heater pulls and flapper boxes in place of the auto heat system. Also deleted all but one air blower. Deleted most of the heat and all of the AC. Under-fender water bottle was replaced with the under-hood turbo unit. Stock carpet is gone, center console is gone, stock seats are gone, rockers and rear skirt are also deleted. If it isn't essential, it's gone....except for the radio

These cars are old in technology and an SC can be beat off the line by a Ford Focus for christs sake.
There is nothing wrong with wanting a little more grunt to your car without being pushed to the track, the track isn't for everyone.

OP Your engine build comments aren't specific, could even be just a top end from what you describe. Would have been nice if they had dropped in a 964 cam grind for a bit of mid range torque.
SSIs are about the only thing you can do for an SC. you wont get 25HP out of that mod you will get a modest 10-12 . This of course includes eliminating the cat , not sure how you feel about that. it will also require a dual inlet muffler and some oil lines so a bit of work although not much.

You can reduce weight but I think some weight reduced cars look like total crap. I don't want the inside of may car to look like something out of mad max but that is personal taste.

beyond the SSis and PMOs ( PMOs will give you tonnes of power but will require matched cams again ) it gets very expensive.

What I did write was "I suggest you attend DE events to see just how well you and your car currently perform. I think you will be surprised at both the true capabilities of you and your car. ".

That comment is far different than what you claimed I said. The tone of my message was that all Porsches are well built machines. They are very capable of handling all that normal drivers can do to them, and still have more capabilities to offer as the driver gains driving expertise.

While you may be one of the very few that was an outstanding driver the first day you got your driver's license and probably did not need to attend a driving school before getting your license, I think a far better approach to learn to be a better driver (or to learn any skill) is thru education and practice. The idea of just adding more HP to a car does not make someone a better driver. That is not "a typical Porsche track guy attitude". It is just common, non ego-driven common sense.

These aircooled 911s have a good bit of performance and driving experience left on the table, but keep in mind everyone has their own opinions due to goals and expectations being very subjective.

From our product offerings, if you don't want to go with a complete exhaust replacement with an RSR Kit for maximum hp/tq, the best combination I have heard is our Catbypass Pipe with Maxflo muffler. Beautiful, throaty, aggressive on full throttle, but comfortable off throttle and keeps that aircooled sound. Also gains a good 15hp or more depending on the car.

Another thing that was not touched on here was upgrading the DME chip. Steve Wong has been in the industry for many years specializing in upgrading the factory software of the air cooled 911 and we happy support and stand by his products. Those who have experience this upgrade for themselves know the claims are accurate. "Performance improvements quite dramatic, as horsepower and torque are increased throughout the powerband to redline on the order of 6 to 8 percent. Throttle response is also dramatically improved as it changes the stock Porsche's lag to one of an immediate response."

Besides the product description by the sellers (with no dyno sheet to prove it), I'm having a hard time finding real world numbers on the SSI mod. Has anyone dyno'd before and after with no other changes?

For example, Pelican Parts product description claim:

The SSI 1974-style heat exchangers are a bolt-on replacement for all thermal reactor cars (1975-77). Using the SSI heat exchangers will make these engines run cooler, make 16 more horsepower (10%), and 28 ft-lb more torque at 3,000 RPM (26% improvement). In addition, the reduced heat from the SSIs will help the engines last much longer. 911SC engines can expect to see an addition of 30 ft-lb of additional torque at 3,000 RPM (increase of 24%).

Why thank you Sounds even better in person! I was about to pull the trigger on an air cooled 911 just to run that setup (loved it that much) then a GT4 came through the shop and ruined it for me lol. Bought a budget GT4 (Cayman R) for now

not sure I believe even +15 hp unless more is done - an engine dyno is the way to find out, and surely SSIs will gain a bit

the real problem with an SC is CIS - it has very poor engine responsiveness, tho will give some torque feel

if he sells it and buys a 3.2L car, he will have some unknowns to deal with but can then upgrade (alter) the DME chip, which is not present on an SC. Steve Wong has an xlnt rep.

he can certainly keep the current car, lose quite a bit of wt. in the rear (Euro crush tubes instead of the US bumper shocks); FG bumper etc., or go to a full FG bodykit, changing the car to look like an early model

not every wt. loss idea makes the car noisier or less comfy, tho some do -- many also cost money
Like the old aphorism of the guy at the speed shop "Light wt. costs money, how light do ya wanna go?"
But there are some wt. saving things you can do that are not only cheap, but free: tossing out heavy things, like the extra air blowers in some models, fat girlfriends, etc.

and... mea culpa - I have a sunroof in mine and it's well worth the high up wt.; I have taken a few hundred lbs. out of the LWB car...

I made nice with the tech crew at the California Festival of Speed and went through the tech inspection line. The last step is putting the car up on a 4 pad Longacre scale. Just seconds after getting out of the car they handed me a slip with the weight hand written on it and said the car was corner balanced perfectly and went on to give me **** for it being a cab. I didn't get to see what the individual numbers were. They pushed me off the scales and told me not to fire it up until after I was out of the building.

This is my lowly disliked cab on R-compound tires in the heat of the SoCal summer. I had no idea Bisi was going to tape it let alone post it on Instagram:

A few years back I was working with Derek Bell. I had my track prepared 911 on site. After lunch we were just hanging around and I asked Derek to take my 911 out on the track.

He was a whole lot faster than I was. I mean by 4 or 5 seconds.

When we got back to the pits I asked him how fast he was driving. He replied "Not very fast. I don't know who worked on this car so I was going pretty slowly. At best I was going 8/10ths."

Derek at 8/10s was going 5 seconds faster than I was at 10/10ths. That was when I decided that I was where the modifications were were needed. The car was just fine. I was the problem.
