Thanks for finding that footage, I have spoken to the garage who were maintaining the 911, they remember the car but it hasn't been into them for a couple of years since it was sold but still see the previous keeper. They are going to do an inspection on the car, I feel much better about it now, will keep you posted. I am very excited so I hope the car gets the thumbs up!

iceman, are you pressing the throttle to keep the RPMs so high for so long?
My 3.2 settles to 800 within 3-4 seconds, at the most.

No
It's a cis on an October day in Canada. Takes a while for the heating element to heat up the wur before it leans it out.

The video is not the best to diagnose but I have to say she doesn't sound a lot different than my 3.2....despite what old skewell says (sorry buddy). My car goes through a quart of oil every 2500 miles or so, has fantastic oil pressure and pulls like a train. I've been around these cars on drives for many years now and to my ear, sound wise, there is nothing out of the ordinary. I think having a local PPI is the wise way to go. Good luck

I just had a look at Ice's video, the only thing I can comment on is that my car sounds a lot smoother inside the cab than walking around outside. Also to my ear, when the car is warm(ish) and RPM falls to the normal idle speed (800 or so), all the noises from all of the mechanical bits of that engine are evident. The 3.2 "hunts" on cold start up and (RPM goes up and down while the car figures out the proper adjustments) this takes a couple of seconds in the summer but quite a bit longer in fall and spring..

I am assuming the car is not warmed up during the video, but the seller has the car booked into inspection tomorrow so not long now..

Id agree, it sounds a little "big endy" but I'm only comparing it to my '87 3.2.
I'm kinda curious as to what it's being sold as? Flat nose conversion but originally a turbo?
The video didn't really show much & it might be great in the flesh, but sometimes cars just look "right".....hope the inspection works out!

Good luck - from a fellow Brit in AZ!

An inspection is the only way to buy a car like this from so far away.

Rich007,
I listened to your video. The ticking IMO are 1 or more of the mechanical lifters. No big deal. As I recall the spec is .02 to .04mm. .004 is noisy and .002 is quiet. These sound more like .004. As a side note, if you adjust enough of them you will eventually be able to learn how to set them to .002-.0025 and do it by touch - ie no gauges. Who is doing your inspection? BTW if I were you and this was your first 911 I'd buy locally and get a 3.2 from 1984 to 1989.
Good luck, Mark

Hi guys, the inspection was done a couple of days ago at golz garage in illinois, the car was maintained at this garage until 2 years ago when the current owner bought the car. The inspection was all good, apart from an oil leak from both rocker covers, and as you guys said the inspection found the lifters to be needing adjustment which is why the engine sounds the way it does, after speaking to the mechanic in the length I am happy with the car, the previous keeper owned the car for many years and clearly looked after it, it has only covered 61k and sounds genuine, i have paid the balance ! Just need to sort out shipping now, any recommendations welcomed. Will keep you guys posted.

Default Car has arrived! !

Hi guys, I collected the 911 from the docks today, made it the half hour drive to the mot station without any issues, had good chance to look underneath when it was on the ramp, no rust underneath, a few small bubbles on the body, corner of the scuttle, on the louvers on the wing (only one side as the mudshield is missing ). The Targa roof doesn't fit properly at the front, i'm sure I can improve that, it's like driving with the window open. All in all its a good car, only failed the mot as the side lights and indicators are the wrong colour so need to work out how to change those? Will post a pic if it's possible?

Default U.s to euro light change

Hi guys, I need to change the lights on my 911 sc from u.s to euro

At the rear I have red lense as the indicator/repeater/turn signal, in the uk these should be orange, is this just a lense change or is it the whole light unit?

At the front I have an orange lense either side of the number plate which is the indicator/repeater/turn signal, but this is also the side light? This lense is in the same place as a normal 911 but on the flatnose it has an additional lense on the curve of the bumper which is also orange and this is also a side light....
Below are two orange lenses which are fog lights?
