Try to find a 964 in equal condition to a 3.2 Carrera that is priced less. Not very many out there still.
Bottomline, if you want an air cooled 911 they are not going to get any cheaper, not in any variant. Cost of ownership has gone up AND new people have discovered the marque and are buying in. The latter may be a fad but the former is a financial reality. The cost of keeping one running right is way more than it was 10 years ago, let alone 5 years ago.

We're mixing cars and economics....
I'd say anybody who buys a car as an "investment" is probably the "greater fool", but hobbyists/collectors who buy quality and hold them generally do well in the long run...
If you appreciate the car and get pleasure from ownership, and enjoy driving it, then spending $25-30K for a 3.2 Carrara is a good alternative to spending $55K for a new Boxster.
Depreciation if the largest cost of owning a car.
I recently toured Doris Duke's mansion Rough-point in Newport... the art collection was breathtaking... she bought this stuff in the 50's and 60's and paid Tip-Top dollar at Sotheby's and the best dealers in the world...
She didn't buy it as an investment... she was already rich... she bought it because she liked it... and it is virtually priceless today.
How it works.

I would say is/or has the bubble burst - no one knows if or when this is going to happen.
Say you purchase a 3.2 today for $35K it will never go to zero unless the economy really collapses. So what is the actual money at risk? Lets say 5 years time the market goes down 20%. This means you will lose $7,500 over that period. On the other hand, you will enjoy the car for around $1,500+ maintenance which I think is worth the risk. Of course, this does not take into account inflation or other factor, but you get the idea.
So in my book this is a no lose situation, and if the price continues to go up you get a bonus.

Exactly. Flippers watch craigslist for the occasional $9,000 orphaned 3,2 in need of a good cleaning and carpet. They put in in their showroom with a $49,000 price tag. Some buyer walks by and says gosh, if you could knock that down to $39,000 I'll take it today....or a salesman throws out the same number but has 3 other people coming to pick it up tomorrow, if you want it you better get it today.

There is a 930 parked in a driveway nearby under a tattered blue tarp. Looks like it has nice wheels. I am in Cali but it has Pensilvania plates. Really want to knock on the door........and ask WTF!!!
