A couple low mile 993 S models got no sales this week. They aren't selling for the moon I think estimated prices for cars this weekend really aggressive. And they have very little to do with our more pedestrian cars.

Be very careful when comparing estimates to sales prices. The estimates are often used as a way to seduce an owner into consigning their car. Right now there are more auctions than cars. Each auction house is competing for the same good cars. The seller of a really nice car has a lot of power right now.

If you have a really good car you won't be paying any seller's commission.

Some people are getting guarantees. These are the high dollar cars that are used to generate interest. The house will guarantee that you leave the auction with a check for X million dollars. This is different than the reserve auction. This is a guarantee that you will walk away with at least so much money regardless of the final sales price.

Than again we will never know how many of the sales are house sales. That's where the auction house buys the car and stores it away for a while. Every auction house has at least one huge warehouse for just this purpose.

Hey - It's the car business.

Yet the classics industry is driven by these figures, if a 993RS goes for over $500,000 then that sets the tone for 993RS cars worldwide (& associated models such as TT) and if sales generated exceeds previous auction, that effects the whole industry. You see auction sold prices are the only verified sales figures the industry have and all else, including the driver cars are affected by it - case in hand being Steve's 911 that broke all records for aircooled back in 2011 and we all know what happened to aircooled prices shortly after that!

Default Air Cooled Bubble?

993RS is 993RS. Always will bring premium. However asking $35k for a 911 SC with 120,000 miles on it, I have a problem with.

what really sucks is when you pay $35k for the 120k mile SC and it feels like a $15k car....
that is what will cool down the market on all these things at some point, except for the low mile cherrys of course.

Here are some results from the Mecum operation. If your look through the Mecum auctions you’ll find some pretty neat bargains. Remember Mecum is a hobbyist auction. It traditionally hasn't handled the collector cars. They do though occasionally break out of the hobbyist market.

1976 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera
Steve McQueen's Last Special Order Porsche
$1,950,000

2005 Porsche Carrera GT
252 Miles Since New
$1,000,000

1986 Porsche 935 Kremer K2
4,233 Miles Since New
$390,000

1974 Rinspeed Slant-nose Conversion
$25,000

1998 Porsche 911 Carrera S
$85,000 (no sale)

1996 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S
$92,500

1977 Porsche 930
$160,000 (no sale)

Market drivers are what they are, if a mint collector gets $200k then the junk will get 20% or whatever and parts will also get more expensive too. But yes I agree junk is junk and wise buyers will stay away.

Just watch all 930's go through the roof now that Steve's has set a new benchmark, even the junk ones.

Why should I have a problem with an SC with 120.000 miles on it?
to maintain properly a 911 AC cost a bit of money and a good maintained car can run many more miles
BTW I bought my Carrera 3,2 930-20 with new paint 4 months ago for 41 k € and I'm happy with, even if it's no perfect it make a lot of fun and that's the most important think about a 911 AC

I think he has a problem with the price, not the mileage. 2 years ago that car was half that price.

I don't think it's a bubble. I think the prices for nice SC, Carrera, 964, and 993 models will level off and stabilize but not drop back down to the prices they could be had for 2 years ago. Longhoods are another story and will probably keep creeping up annually.

Hello,
Antifreeze cause it to overheat That is way Air cooled bubble. Open antifreeze, leaking out the top. I think you need a better diagnosis, and prepare yourself for a costly repair.
Thanks

I was referring to cars in less than desirable condition.
