Spacer on Chain Tensioner Upgrade?
I am putting the chain tensioners back on and am wondering whether it is normal to have this much space between the tensioner and the sprocket arm? Does this seem right? I checked on Pelican and apparently you only need a spacer for the earlier models (77 and older), but this doesn't look right to me.

According to Porsche, 1980 and earlier engines need a two spacers, number 930.105.513.00. They goes where you're arrows are. Documented in Technical Bulletin 2 in the Parts and Technical Reference Catalog for 911's (catalog is part number PNA 000 147).

It's generally recommended to use the late idler arms ('80 up). They have a wider bushing that will take up the space. The "interim" spacers you got with the tensioner kit are priced right, but B. Anderson thinks one reason the early tensioners failed was because the early, narrow bushed arm would bind. The late arms are fairly plentiful on the used market (two for every basket case engine).

I just did a post about this a few days back. I did the carrera tensioner upgrade on my 80 SC. After upgrade I have a nasty mystery noise after warm up. I measured the space that you show on my setup, it was about 100 mils. Lookslike you have ??? 250 or more mils. I ordered the spacers so in a few days I can measure them for you. But judging from your gap, I don't think that the spacers I'm getting will work for me!

bds1 - I saw your post the other day, that's kind of what motivated me to check into this. I knew it didn't seem correct to have this amount of space in there. You're probably okay with your one spacer if the space on mine requires two.
Does anybody have a set of the later style tensioner arms that Sherwood is referring to? Sounds like that's the best option.
