Default Aux. Driving Lights - What do you use?

I'd like to replace my factory fog/driving lamps with some true driving lights. The only one's I've look at so far are the Hella 450 which look like they'd pretty much be plug and play. The Hella 550 might be too big to fit.

What have you found to be a good replacement?

Just make sure all are properly relayed so you don't tax your wiring.

I'd investigate what Dan Stern Lighting suggests. Cibie makes some wonderful aux driving lights.

So even if I pull the existing factory fogs and replace with something like the Hellas I should run a separate relay?

Thx,
Randy

If a relay is not currently present, then yes you will need to install one, and probably one for each side, depending on the size of the torch throwers you plan on installing.

I know this thread is ancient but my question is the same?

I'm looking at the Hella 450's as Pelican notes they are very close to the originals ... any alternatives or original (weak beam) front fogs for an 84 available?

thanks!

Matt
(ps - pls pm me; shipping to CO)

I have a similar question. It doesn't look like the Hella 450s will fit in the factory fog light locations at all on the '84-'89 cars. Is there something that will? I'd love to get a set of pencil beams in there, or something that will really light up the sides of the road.

Why do you say that? Pelican implies they're almost perfect fit.

These fog lamps are replacements for the standard factory units. The kits come in two sizes, 450 and 550. The 450 are a little less bright, but resemble the factory units better than the 550s. Choose either the USA-style clear lenses, or the more European-look of amber lenses. They can be easily installed, and project light under the fog in front of you to eliminate and reduce the glare or 'bounce-back' effect that makes driving difficult with normal lamps. Protect your investment with a set of fog lamp covers as well. The 450 lamps are 6.25" by 3.5" rectangular, and the 550 lamps are 7.625" by 3.75" rectangular. Kits contain brackets, relay, and installation harnesses.

Link? I'm sure anything with a screw post would work in place of the SC lights. The Carrera lights are embedded in the front valence. Has anyone ever swapped those for anything but an OEM replacement?
