'84 Euro S interference or not. Answer will be coming...
I was getting on it pretty good for a short burst and heard a "pop" and the car died instantly. I coasted into my neighborhood and had AAA flatbed me to my house. I removed the ALT, PS pump and the covers to see what happened. I guess I need to go back to the scene tomorrow because there is no timing belt. Some residue, but no belt.
One odd thing happened before this. I was on the highway and had to slow to a creeping speed due to construction traffic. Suddenly, I got steam coming from my vents like burning coolant. As I was about to pull over it disappeared. Lasted maybe 3 seconds. Drove a few more miles and stopped the car to do an errand. Took a look and nothing leaking. Started back up and headed home. About 1/4 mile from my neighborhood, I decided to get on it for a short burst.....the rest will be history.
Pics are attached.

Yes, interference.
It's not a matter of if it bent the valves, it's just a matter of how many.

That belt will be a bitch to get off the crank gear. And yes, valves will hit.

Oh no! My condolences.

Looks like that one needed complete maintenance anyway.
Valve work won't slow you down much from an incremental perspective.
I'm surprised that you were driving it.

Is that pulley out of round???

It must have happened when the belt broke. There is a picture here of a GTS T-belt failure and the tensioner pulley was bent a lot more than the one on the pic above. And like Sean said, your belt is probably melted a bit and wrapped around the crank gear.

I broke the cam chain in my 944S which has larger valves and higher compression ratio than a 928GT.
I didn't bend one valve.
It did destroy the teeth on both camshafts which cost more than the bent valves would have.....

If you need a NIB twin dizzy complete, I have one available.
Don't ask why, cause the answer goes like this ... I was thinking MOPAR when I got it, with the idea of getting 10 extra horses from a distributor change on my '81 US 4.5.
I cost me $600.00 and is still NIB, and it helps to read PET and the WSM's first before doing stupid things.

I just had a breakdown on a M28 / 22 engine (ROW or Euro as you refer to it in here) 310hp LH jet engine. This was an 84 model ''E'' engine.
Left (driverside) camshaft broke. Further, the tensioner arm bolt broke and the belt badly mashed up.
No damage to Valves. All meassured perfectly round and ok. No sign of the SLIGHTEST contact on any of the valves.
No damage or sign of contact at any of the piston crowns.
Before anyone jumps to conclusions: The cams has been confirmed by part numbers to be the correct ROW S (84 - E). Pistons are also the correct Mahle 10,4:1 jobs.
Go figure.

IIRC, early ROW '84 may have leftover '83 lower compression pistons.

OUCH.....so not only do you have bent valves you also lost the super rare LH Euro S cam.....this is fairly common from an under tensioned (typically old) timing belt.....
Very sad.....

Brian he said the valves were O K not bent but round never hit a piston ! Which agrees with what I believe....the deep valve reliefs of the euro piston make it none interference. The 45 degree marks on the balancer and revised t-belt procedure began with the 32V motor.
