Do you drive your Porsche in the rain?
I know the 997 is well engineered for all the hazards of modern driving - one of the most basic of which is rain but I can't bring myself to even let it get wet (other than washing) let alone drive it on a wet road.
Its partly because I hate to get it dirty and I am generally too busy to find time to wash cars ( I own 9 of them). Also I treat it as a classic car like my others so it gets the same baby treatment.
Am I being too careful with my 997 or do many of you do / think the same?
It rains a lot in Ireland so obviously this means limited use.

Classic car? No, it is mass produced.
Rain? Have you ever been to Germany? It rains. In the winter, a lot. It also snows.
So far, I'm pretty sure, no Porsche was ever melted away by rain.........

I drive mine to work every day and it has been pissing down the last few days. So for me I have no choice.
Actually, with the hard water here in Texas when I wash the car I have to hand dry to perfection otherwise I get millions of white dots. I'm quite glad to get some nice soft water rain to give the car a rinse with zero effort.

If I don't have time to give it a thorough wash when coming in from the rain, I take a quick few minutes to hose down the car before sending it to the garage. This helps shed off any road grime and makes the coming thorough wash much easier.
I actually enjoy driving my 911 in the rain. A different roadway experience!

I live in Louisiana. If I didn't drive in the rain there would be times I couldn't drive it for weeks at a time. I drive in all weather except hail.

I've driven my Targa 4 in all kinds of weather from rain to light snow. It performes great and I have never felt uncomfortable. While I do own a Tahoe for serious winter weather, I drive my Porsche as much as I can. I now have over 36,500 very happy miles on it.

My 997 is a recreational car, not my DD. I'm like you and prefer not to drive it in the rain. It's black and I like keeping it spotless. But it's sunny most of the time where I live.

Rain, no problem! I have wipers that work and the mud will wash off. However, I don't drive it during love bug season, rain or shine. Their dead carcasses are a real pain to remove each day so they don't etch the paint.

after 3 more nicks in the clear bra, i've realized that the only way to keep this car pristine is to put it in a glass case... screw that!!! just drive the crap out of it, rain or shine!!!

What's rain?
This spring, the wife and I were headed out 1 of those days it actually rsained here.
When I opened the garage door behind the P-car, she said your driving it? In the rain?
I slid it around until she got pissed and made me quit Rain's a blast!

It is quite sad to me to know that many are timid about driving a 997 in the rain. Porsche went to incredible lengths to make the 997 perform extremely well in the rain. It's former tail-happy handling has been corrected with sophisticated electronics, and the windscreen wipers are designed to stay ahead of even the most intense downpours, with variable speeds based upon rainfall and vehicle velocity. Don't cheat yourself of the opportunity to experience a 997/911 in the rain. Excellent climate controls ensure the windscreen and side windows stay clear for unobstructed driving.
