Increase 997 chassis stability and enhance shifter feel and accuracy
Introducing new Rennlist site sponsor: FUNCTION-FIRST Performance
TRANSMISSION MOUNT INSERT
996/997
The OEM transmission mount was designed for ride comfort and is prone to sagging and tearing – above all, it is a detriment to performance. Its empty voids allow for too much transmission movement, resulting in sloppy handling, numbed responsiveness, and imprecise shifting. Racecars utilize a solid metal mount to mediate this, which is impractical for street use as it transfers extreme noise and vibration into the cabin.
So how do you achieve the benefits of a solid mount while retaining daily drivability? Function-First Performance offers the only available solution for the Porsche 996 and 997. Our durable urethane rubber insert fills and fortifies the empty voids of the OEM mount to prevent premature bushing wear and undesirable transmission movement, all while transmitting minimal noise and vibration.
The result? Handling is taut and predictable; power delivery is immediate and smooth; gear changes are crisp and confident.
Installation can be completed with basic hand tools in about one hour. Pressing out the stock transmission mount bushing is NOT necessary.

I previously installed a set of semi-solid motor mounts (WEVO) in my '09 Carrera S. Is there anything else that could/should be tightened up, and are you working on anything for the 997.2 models?

I also use these in conjunction with semi-solid mounts in my 996, and it's a daily driver commuter car.
Porsche started using a different bushing in the 2009+ models, and I'm working on the mount inserts for those 997.2 models. Will probably be ready in a couple weeks - I'll keep you posted.
Thanks!

A number of people inquired about the installation process, so I put together instructions and uploaded it to the bottom of the product page:

I installed these over the weekend and it was a pretty simple job. I wanted to confirm the torque values - all of the bolts looked to be 48 ft-lbs for the manual trans according to the workshop manual. This seemed a bit low so just double checking. Thanks

Yes, workshop manual states 48 ft-lbs for the trans carrier/bushing nuts and bolts.
Be sure to let us know your impressions of the inserts.
Thanks and enjoy!

Sorry not to get back on this sooner.
The mod is simple, quick, and inexpensive. The biggest improvement is the responsiveness of acceleration; the transmission has less play and flexes less so the power is transmitted to the wheels and there is less flex/rotate in the trans. Also the notchyness of the shifter is somewhat reduced.
Cabin noise is increased a little because there is less damping. Strange thing is that under 4000 rpms it sounds more like engine/exhaust feedback. Over 4000 it definitely sounds like transmission.
