A Porsche Like You've Never Seen Before

As the SEMA Show approaches, one standout build promises to grab attention: The Rad Factory’s Porsche Cayenne truck conversion. This ambitious project transforms a first-generation Cayenne SUV into a striking overlander with a custom-fabricated bed and a slide-in camper. The builders’ goal is to offer something completely different from Porsche’s own designs and showcase their unique vision for off-road adventures.

The Challenge of Reinventing a Cayenne

Converting the Cayenne into a truck posed serious engineering challenges, primarily because the Cayenne doesn’t have a ladder frame to easily support such a conversion. After cutting the upper portion of the vehicle, The Rad Factory had to carefully reinforce the body to maintain structural integrity. This involved welding steel to the subframe, which initially caused some twisting. After revising their design and adjustments, the builders managed to stabilize the build.

Crafting a Functional and Rigid Design

Another major hurdle involved transforming the rear bulkhead to seal the cabin while maintaining the vehicle's rigidity. The team meticulously shaped and sculpted the rear section to ensure stability, but the process wasn’t easy. Adding a rear window also presented problems, though the builders overcame this with strategic welding and the application of Bondo, a commonly used car body filler. Their dedication has paid off, as the project now nears its final stages before the SEMA Show.

Racing Against Time

Complicating matters, The Rad Factory isn’t just focused on the Cayenne conversion. The team is also working on a Baja-style Miata build, another entry for the SEMA Show. With both vehicles set to debut at the event from November 5-8, 2024, the builders are racing against time to complete both projects. Fortunately, they’re making significant progress on both fronts as the show date draws closer.

Ready for Adventure

The latest updates show The Rad Factory fitting a Tune Outdoor camper onto the bed of the Cayenne, completing the overlander vision. With its rugged features and off-road capabilities, this custom Porsche Cayenne truck is poised to be the perfect adventure companion, offering a unique twist on what an SUV can be. As the builders apply the finishing touches, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting its grand debut at the upcoming SEMA Show.
