Famous Owner

The late Diego Maradona made a name for himself as one of the greatest soccer players in history thanks to his moves on the field. But Maradona didn't just like to go full throttle on the field - he was also an avid fan of fast cars, too. In fact, this particular 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera World Turbo Look (WTL) was one of his many personal cars, and it just crossed the block at Bonham's Les Grandes Marques du Monde à Paris auction.

Special Ride

Aside from belonging to one of the greatest soccer players in history, this particular car is also quite rare, as it's one of just 1,200 examples of the Cabriolet to ever roll off Porsche's assembly line. Maradona took delivery of the car when it was new in November of 1992, which just so happened to be the only season he played for Sevilla, as well as his last in European soccer.

Forgettable Year

This wasn't exactly the highlight of Maradona's career, as he was coming off a 15-month ban for cocaine use and he wound up unsuccessfully trying to resurrect his once-great career. Regardless, his personal ride at the time is certainly noteworthy.

Fine Example

The 911 is finished in Elegant Silver with a black leather interior, and has 75,000 miles on the clock, though it appears to be in simply immaculate condition. The car's original 3.6-liter flat-six engine remains, which originally churned out 250 horsepower and propelled the car to a stop speed of 124 miles-per-hour.

Getting In Trouble

Maradona apparently loved to explore the limits of his Porsche and was reportedly pulled over by armed police one time for driving through the center of Sevilla at 111 mph. The soccer great was regularly seen commuting in the car to and from practice, though unfortunately, his lifestyle didn't translate to a great on-field performance.

Late but Great

Sadly, Maradona passed away last November at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack while he was recovering from brain surgery. Regardless, his legend lives on today in a number of ways, including through his very special personal Porsche.

Magic Touch

Given the icon's popularity across Europe, it's no surprise that bidding was fast and furious when the Porsche crossed the auction block. When the dust settled, the car sold for a whopping $575,736 USD - a princely sum indeed. But that's the classic Maradona touch for you.
