Rare Look

Porsche's 911 Turbo has always been a highly-coveted machine, one that combines ultimate luxury with ultimate speed. But if you wanted the cool looks of a Turbo without the added power, Porsche also offered a US-spec M491 “Turbo Look” package. Surprisingly, this wasn't a terribly popular option. But that also makes this particular 911, which we recently spotted at Bring a Trailer, one of just 180 produced in Cabriolet spec.

Good as New

This particular 911 was originally sold in Hawaii, then spent time in Hawaii, Texas, and New Jersey before being reacquired by the original selling dealership, Honolulu Porsche. And by the looks of things, it's been very well taken care of all these years. Today, it sports just 76k miles on the odometer and looks almost as good as new.

Turbo Look

If you didn't know any better, you'd probably think this was a 911 Turbo, for obvious reasons. Mostly because it sports the same fender flares, front and rear spoilers, and other goodies you'd spot on Turbo cars. With Guards Red paint and a black top, this certainly looks like a winner, too.

Other Goodies

The M491 package also included suspension components and drilled brake rotors from the Turbo model. This particular car has also been treated to adjustable front struts and rear shocks, and the ride height has been lowered to Euro spec. A classic set of 16″ Fuchs wheels completes the look, and they're wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 tires measuring 205/55 up front and 245/50 in the rear.

Notable Options

The clean cabin of this 911 is wrapped in tan leather and looks to be in fantastic condition given its age and use. Some notable options here include power sport seats, air conditioning, power windows and locks, and a Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 cassette stereo. It's all set off by contrasting black pieces including the dash, steering wheel, and other assorted pieces.

Equally Beloved

It may not pack the coveted Turbo mill, but we certainly love this car's naturally-aspirated air-cooled 3.2-liter M930 flat-six, which was originally rated at 214 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. In this case, the previous owner added a new ECU from 911Chips for a bit more power, thought the original was also retained. Shifts are handled via Porsche's legendary G50 five-speed manual transmission.

Naturally-Aspirated Love

Some may call it an imposter, but we love this M491 Cabriolet all the same. After all, everyone loves the looks of a 911 Turbo. And while we obviously also love its performance, we also love the way a naturally-aspirated, air-cooled, flat-six Porsche drives, too. And for some, that makes this particular car even better than the real thing.
