Transsyberia Tribute

These days, anything off-road related is hotter than the surface of the sun. Everyone wants a piece of that market, as evidenced by the incredible prices vintage off-road vehicles have been selling for in recent months. And while this 2005 Porsche Cayenne that recently sold at Cars & Bids is merely a tribute built to honor the SUV that won the Transsyberia Rally in 2007 and 2008, it's still incredibly cool in our book.

Impressive Kit

This particular Cayenne Turbo came equipped from the factory with some impressive kit, including Porsche's Advanced Off-road Technology Package, which consists of locking center and rear differentials and hydraulically-activated front and rear sway bar disconnects, as well as Active Suspension Management and Traction Management.

Turbo Power

Like all Cayenne Turbos of this generation, the SUV is powered by Porsche's twin-turbocharged 4.5-liter V8 that produces 450 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque, which flows to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. To this solid base, the seller added a host of cool extras that make it even more special than your average first-gen 955 Cayenne Turbo.

Muscular Stance

That includes orange powder-coated wheels wrapped with 265/65 Kenda Klever E-rated tires, which give it a more muscular stance. The Cayenne has also received a 3-inch suspension lift with a subframe drop to ensure proper CV geometry, while aluminum rock sliders protect the bodywork from jagged pieces of earth.

Looking the Part

In addition to Eurowise skid plates, the Cayenne has received a number of visual upgrades to match it to those race-winning Porsches from the past. They include a roof bar with LED lights, a later model rear spoiler, a swing-away rear tire carrier with fuel cans, Transsyberia decals, and orange vinyl wrap on the mirror caps, grille inserts, and rear spoiler.

Completing the Look

Door number plate decals and Porsche decals for the windshield and tailgate complete the look, which extends inside with some additional orange accents. The seller also replaced the factory head unit with a 9-inch Xtrons infotainment system that boasts touchscreen capability for a modern feel.

Different Strokes

When the dust settled, this sweet off-road Cayenne sold for $28,000 with 25 total bids. Obviously, it's a niche product that isn't for everyone, but in our book, it's a supremely cool tribute to a lesser-known slice of Porsche rally history, and one that we'd love to take out in the dirt on a weekly basis.
