Porsche Wreckage on Angeles Crest Highway

Two Porsche 911s, a 991-gen 911 and a GT3 RS model, were involved in a dramatic collision on the Angeles Crest Highway near Monte Cristo Campground. The impact was so severe that one of the cars' engines was torn from the vehicle and left lying on the road. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department shared photos of the crash site, which quickly circulated, showcasing the wrecked cars with scattered debris across the pavement.

An Ill-Timed U-Turn Sparks the Incident

Reports from the scene suggest that the crash occurred after one of the Porsches attempted a U-turn in the middle of the highway. The white GT3 RS appears to have struck the rear of the silver 911, resulting in catastrophic damage. The exact events remain unclear, as no footage of the collision exists, but the visible destruction points to the tremendous force of the crash.

A Gruesome Sight for Porsche Enthusiasts

The silver 911 suffered the most damage, with its rear end entirely obliterated. The engine was ripped out of the car and left in the middle of the road, while the rear suspension was heavily compromised. Notably, the car had been fitted with aftermarket Ohlins coilovers, signaling that the driver was likely a performance enthusiast. Meanwhile, the white GT3 RS also sustained significant damage, especially to the driver’s side front wheel and suspension components.

No Serious Injuries Reported

Despite the severity of the crash and the extensive damage to both vehicles, no serious injuries were reported. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s Air Rescue 5 team quickly arrived at the scene to assist, but their role was fortunately limited to ensuring safety and clearing the wreckage. It was a frightening accident, but those involved escaped without life-threatening injuries.

A Cautionary Tale for Canyon Road Drivers

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with canyon driving. The winding roads and blind corners of Angeles Crest Highway are a haven for driving enthusiasts but can be treacherous if not navigated carefully. The crash, though largely a result of misjudgment, highlights how quickly a situation can escalate on such roads. For drivers, it’s a sobering reminder to never "outdrive your eyes" and to always be cautious on these scenic but dangerous routes.
