Near the Top
In the automotive world, recalls can be an inconvenience, as well as a bit of an issue - after all, recalls only happen when there's a problem that could impact a vehicle's safety. However, while some automakers tend to try and dodge recalls and save money, others are quick to issue them and rectify those problems, so they aren't necessarily all bad. Regardless, it isn't a terribly good sign that Porsche had two vehicles rank near the top of iSeeCars' most recent list of the models with the most projected recalls.

Big Numbers
On this particular list, the Taycan actually ranks at the very top with a whopping 70.7 projected recalls over a 30-year lifespan, which is far higher than the median average of 3.2 - 21.9 times higher, in fact. Meanwhile, the Panamera didn't fare much better after ranking fourth on this list with 43.1 projected recalls, which is 13.3 times the overall average.

Crunching Numbers
To come up with these rankings, iSeeCars looked at historic recall data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for vehicles between the 2015 and 2024 model years. From there, it aggregated that data and used it to project how many recalls each model could potentially experience over a 30-year lifespan.

Just a Guide
By comparison, the lowest-rated vehicles on this list all had less than one projected recall over the coming three decades, with some even ranking as low as 0.2 - underscoring the importance of doing research during the car buying process, though as iSeeCars notes, this data certainly isn't perfect. If nothing else, it's just another guide one can use when considering different models.

Avoiding the Hassle
“If you’re hoping to avoid recall hassles, you can significantly improve your odds by choosing the right model,” said Karl Brauer, iSeeCars’ Executive Analyst. “A vehicle like the MINI Convertible or Lexus RX 450h has, literally, a fractional chance of being recalled even once, versus more than 60 projected recalls for the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model Y, and Tesla Model 3. Even the industry median of 3.2 lifetime recalls sounds much better than the approximately 15-plus projected recalls for all of the cars on the most recalled list.”
