Porsche Driver Stranded Amid California Flash Floods

Wrong Place, Wrong Time

California is one place where rain isn't exactly what one might call common, though it does happen occasionally. Thus, when a recent winter storm dumped a ton of water on Southern California in a short period of time, it not only caught many residents by surprise, but also led to some serious flash flooding in parts of the area. Unfortunately for the driver of this Porsche 911, he also just so happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when this happened, according to ABC 7 news.

Moving Fast

As the storm intensified, it wound up dumping large amounts of rain on the 5 Freeway in quick order, which caught a number of cars traveling on the road in its wake. That includes the Porsche, which wound up sitting in water that was quite literally almost to the top of its tires, which is obviously a bad thing.

Lake-Like Freeway

As a result, the owner simply crawled out and stood on top of the car awaiting help, it seems. The scene was captured by someone driving by in the other direction, and we can clearly see that the Porsche driver wasn't alone, as the flooded, lake-like freeway also consumed a couple of other vehicles, too.

Positive Outcome

Luckily for the driver, ABC 7 reports that he was just fine in spite of this harrowing incident, which obviously could have gone much worse. After all, many people die each year after driving into flooded waters and drowning, rather than simply turning around and trying a different route. Regardless, that water obviously won't do the car any favors, as it tends to wreak havoc on electronics and metal alike.

Not Worth It

It's unclear how this particular incident happened, but it also serves as a good reminder that it's oftentimes hard to tell just how deep flood waters might be, and as such, it isn't a good idea to try and find out by driving through them. Many times, you might be just fine, but in incidents like this, you may also wind up stranded with a flooded vehicle to deal with.
