Outdoor Activities

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 has largely been a bust. Most of us aren't able to go out and do the things that we enjoy doing, and that's been a major bummer. Thankfully, some companies are trying to offer us a semblance of normal life, and that includes Porsche and Audi. The pair of automakers are hosting all sorts of outdoor events in Germany these days, including some pretty cool drive-in movie experiences.

Movie Stars

Of course, the automakers aren't just screening any old flicks - they're specifically featuring ones that star Porsche and Audi vehicles, of course. On top of that, attendees are able to test out their vehicles on a nearby track, which is a pretty awesome way to work off some of that popcorn, candy, and soda.

Get Outside

The drive-in movies are just the latest in a large-scale effort by automakers in the Volkswagen Group to help folks get out and enjoy themselves. Aside from movies and track experiences, that list includes things like football matches and live music performances.

Branching Out

Right now, these special events are only being held in Germany. However, Audi is planning to expand them to other areas of the world, including the cities of Los Angeles and Atlanta. Currently, the open-air movie drive-in experiences allow up to 200 people to attend safely.

Attracting Visitors

The events also help Porsche attract more visitors to its Leipzig facility, as attendance predictably plummeted after the COVID-19 pandemic took over earlier this year. So far, it seems to be working, as thousands of people have shown up to enjoy the events, according to the automakers.

Brand-Related Experience

"This is not the same as a visit to a dealership. If you go there, you usually plan to buy a car. Here you come to experience the brand and see its heritage," said Jens Walter, marketing director of Porsche Leipzig.

Win-Win

These concepts have clearly been well-received so far, and seem like a win-win for both Audi and Porsche customers and the automakers themselves. It allows owners to get out of the house and enjoy a fun evening, while also helping to further cement what is already a pretty strong brand image, to begin with.
