The all-mighty Yellowbird!

RUF is a brand name engrained in the minds of automotive enthusiasts as the manufacturer of some of the more radical Porsche-based streetcars ever produced. Most famously, the company produced the RUF CTR, aka The Yellowbird, in 1987 which is infamous for setting a production car top speed record at 212 mph and setting multiple track records across the world.

To help celebrate this awesome legacy, RUF revived The Yellowbird in a collaboration with the team at KW Suspension. The 911 features a classic body, however, the entire drivetrain and chassis are all new. Read on to find out more about this amazing machine!

Classic looks with a modern chassis!

As you have probably noticed, the car is still in the testing phase and is missing paint on a few body panels. This sneak peek into the production of this ultra-rare revival is a special treat for any automotive enthusiast. Although the Yellowbird retains the classic body lines of an air-cooled 911 Turbo, a keen eye will point that the bodywork is wider and accommodates a more aggressive wheel and tire setup than the original Yellowbird.

Flat-6 Power!

It would be a disgrace to the RUF brand if power came from anything but a turbocharged Flat-6. This particular engine displaces 3.6 liters and produces 710hp and 649 ft/lbs of torque which is a ridiculous amount for this featherweight RUF. All of this power goes through a manual transmission making the driving experience that much more death-defying and engaging. The target top speed is 225 mph which places it in hypercar range!

In-house Suspension!

For starters, the new Yellowbird features a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis that the RUF team could only dream of in 1987. Since KW suspension was heavily involved in the development of this RUF, they employed a fully custom double wishbone pushrod setup both front and rear. A custom KW Clubsport coilover kit and front axle lift system was bolted on to make this car much more advanced than the original.

The Ultimate Package!

Overall, the revival of the RUF Yellowbird is both exciting and a milestone for RUF's reentry into the market. I think it is safe to say that RUF did their legacy justice and produced a race ready 911 that can perform alongside some of the fastest supercars today! Just don't expect to be able to purchase your own anytime soon!
