True Standout

Fans of vintage Porsche 911 models are among the luckiest automotive enthusiasts of any kind these days, given the fact that we have a bevy of options to choose from when it comes to restomods. There are a copious number of companies out there churning out stellar, modernized examples of the 911 - so many, in fact, that it's hard for some to truly stand out. However, one model that does that without breaking a sweat is the KAEGE RETRO, which Rennlist was recently able to scope out up close.

Successful Base

Based on the beloved 993 generation Porsche 911, the RETRO is designed to retain that model's character, and true to form, doesn't deviate too far from what makes it so special in the first place, though it does take on the newish process of backdating in a unique way.

Three Variants

KAEGE offers the RETRO in three different variants - the Classic, Targa, and Turbo. Each is designed to represent an interpretation of the classic F model on the technical basis of a 993, resulting in what the company believes is the best of all worlds.

Finding Inspiration

The founder of KAEGE - Roger Kaege - was inspired by the Singer 911, but he wanted to make a 911 restomod that was his own unique creation, regardless. The carbon fiber body that adorns his creation certainly helps in that regard, while also keeping weight to a bare minimum and improving overall performance and driving dynamics.

Featherweight

In fact, the RETRO tips the scales at a mere 2,634 pounds, making it a featherweight by any measure. The base powertrain consists of the naturally-aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six, which churns out right around 300 horsepower, though as one might imagine, you can opt for more if desired.

Several Benefits

In fact, the Turbo model can be had with upwards of 500 horsepower, which we imagine would result in a rather exhilarating driving experience. The beauty of such a build, of course, is that you have a car that looks old, yet is more reliable and easier to service than a vintage 911, too.

Custom Touches

As one can clearly see here, the RETRO doesn't look like a newer 993 911, thanks to its new front and rear styling that mimics the original model. However, there are clues that this isn't a first-generation 911, such as its wide fenders with squared-off lips, a custom front chin spoiler, and brushed stainless window trim, to name just a few.

One of a Kind

Like most bespoke builders of fine 911 restomods, KAEGE builds the RETRO to order, meaning that each one is highly unlikely to ever be exactly like another - just like Singer and its competition. However, KAEGE aims to improve upon those models with a car that's easy to maintain and service, and in that regard, it's a bit unique in this ever-popular space.
