Trading a Porsche for an island

Consider the following trade deal: a 2018 911 GT2 RS for a slice of paradise along the coast of Florida. A man in Florida (isn't it always Florida) is willing to trade a portion of his waterfront property for the coveted 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS. If you happen to have one on hand and are interested in a piece of waterfront property down in Florida, this could be a great swap. The powerful Porsche has a starting price tag of $293,000, but the island property has an even higher price tag, according to this Jalopnik article.

Introducing the 2018 PORSCHE 911 GT2 RS

The 2018 911 GT2 RS isn't lacking power by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, it's the "most powerful, most expensive, and most insane-sounding 911 in history," according to Caranddriver.com. It's easy to see why when you look at the numbers, especially compared to its predecessors. The 2011 GT2 RS boasted 620 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, the 2018 GT2 stands out for its 700 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.

Is it a good deal?

Seeing as how the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS has a starting price of $293,000 and the property for sale is worth $568,000 (according to the Craigslist ad on Jalopnik), at first glance, swapping the GT2 for a piece of island property doesn't quite add up. I opened up the Porsche car configurator to see how much more some basic changes would cost. A pair of magnesium wheels alone boosts the price by 13 grand. You can have the wheels painted in satin platinum or satin black for an additional $690. Prefer red stitching over grey on the inside? That will cost you an extra $3,480. A front axle lift system costs nearly the same. I could keep going, but the point is that with a handful of extra options, the deal starts to seem a little sweeter.

A car-obsessed land owner

It's not the first time this particular landowner has attempted to swap his property for a high-end vehicle. A little bit of digging revealed the same owner previously tried to trade his property for a Porsche 918 (that was three years ago), and a Ferrari Enzo three years earlier. The owner says he missed out on the chance to purchase a 2018 Porsche GT2 RS of his own. Since the $568,000 property value doesn't quite match the $297,000 price tag of the base GT2 RS, the landowner is willing to 'even trade' a slice of island property for the coveted Porsche.

Can I trade land for a car?

In case you're wondering, it turns out that you can actually trade land for a car. While it's far less common to trade a car for a home or piece of property (rather than swapping houses or properties), this isn't the first time it's happened. An article on landcentury.com confirms that the idea of trading a car or other items is starting to catch on. In some cases, the trade may include a car or other asset to help offset the value of the property or the home. In any case, it's a good idea to have purchase and sales agreements in place to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Does it even exist?

Whether the Porsche 2018 911 GT2 RS even existed was a valid question when the car came out. That's because Porsche hadn't even acknowledged the car's existence after it went on sale, according to Jalopnik. In fact, the article includes a quote from a Porsche spokesperson, who said that no official announcements had been made regarding the elusive Porsche, even after reports surfaced that all 1,000 had been sold.

The specs

Now that it's listed on the official Porsche website, you can see the specs for yourself. This beast has a maximum 690 horsepower, and powers from zero to 60 in just 2.7 seconds. Under the hood is a 3.8-liter six-cylinder twin-turbo engine that produces 553 lb-ft of torque. Its top recorded track speed is 211 miles per hour. The rear wheel drive sports car has a starting price tag of $293,200.00.

The fastest street-legal car?

After a few upgrades courtesy of the Manthey Racing team at Nürburgring, the 2018 Porsche GT2 RS was put to the test. A clocked time of 6:40.33 catapulted the Porsche to the top of the list of speedy street-legal cars. In fact, Porsche announced the GT2 is now the quickest street-legal car at Nürburgring, beating out the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (6:44.97), and the McLaren P1 LM (6:43.2).

Road-worthy upgrades

If you're fortunate enough to get your hands on this rare Porsche and are itching for some upgrades to really boost its power and performance on the road, you're in luck. Well, at least in Europe, where you have access to the Manthey Racing upgrade package. All you need to do is drop your Porsche off at the Nürburgring for the upgrades, then pick it up once it's ready, according to Roadandtrack.com. Unfortunately, the package can't be shipped to the US. The package includes bigger wing and dive planes, magnesium wheels and new suspension hardware. The fluids, brake pads and stainless steel lines have all been upgraded as well.
