How to Clean Alcantara Interior Parts
Alcantara interiors are beautiful and they can last you a long time if cleaned and maintained regularly.
Intro
With extended use, Alcantara interior parts start to get dirty and the fibers lose their texture and feel. This is especially true for frequent touch points such as the steering wheel and armrests. Here's how you can maintain Alcantara trim and keep it looking new for years.
Materials Needed
- Fabric interior cleaner product
- Soft interior cleaning brush
- Soft microfiber towels
- A vacuum cleaner with a narrow tip
For the fabric interior cleaner, examples of popular products include Chemical Guys Fabric Shampoo, Meguiar's Upholstery Cleaner, or Turtle Wax Interior Cleaner.
A good interior detailing brush is very important. These can also be used for detailing other delicate car parts as well, so it's helpful to have a set around.

Step 1: Apply Fabric Cleaner
Start by spraying the cleaning product onto the tip of the brush. You can also put a very light coat on the Alcantara surface before starting to clean. Work in small sections (no larger than 10" by 10") to give each section the necessary attention.

Step 2: Brush out the Dirt
Very gently brush the Alcantara in straight, back-and-forth movements. Clean each section thoroughly, making sure the dirt and grime have been removed. Avoid pressing the brush into the fabric too hard, as it can ruin the texture.

Step 3: Wipe the Surface
Then, proceed to wipe off the area using a clean soft microfiber towel. Remember not to push too hard onto the surface of the Alcantara, though, to preserve the material's texture.

Step 4: Vacuum
After wiping away the cleaning product and any loose dirt or gunk, it's time to use the vacuum cleaner. It's important to make sure the tip of the vacuum cleaner does not damage the fibers of the Alcantara. Try not to press the vacuum onto the material surface. Very lightly and slowly move the tip of the vacuum across the section being cleaned.
This will not only get rid of any remaining dirt and cleaning product, but it will also help the fibers of the Alcantara stand up, giving it a fresh, lively look. You can also go back in and lightly brush the surface with a clean dry brush to bring the fibers up.

Final Thoughts
This process can be used for all Alcantara-covered interior parts. It's important to take good care of parts that are more frequently in direct contact with the driver and the passengers, especially the steering wheel. This will ensure that your interior's Alcantara parts will remain looking nice and fresh for a long time.
Additionally, you can apply fabric protectant products to keep your upholstery protected from the elements.
