New Sponsor, New Livery

Earlier this week, just ahead of this weekend's season opener in Italy, The GPX Racing team unveiled their new Martini livery. With an ode to the legendary 1971 Porsche 917 K that took the victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1971. The Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup opener at Monza marks the beginning of a new era for GPX.

New Era for GPX

The new livery won't be the team's only change this season. In the weeks leading up to the season start, GPX made announcements regarding the future direction of the team. Aside from announcing the driver lineup for 2021, they also revealed that they have parted ways with Monlau Competicion. And ART Grand Prix will be taking over the technical management of the team.

An Ode to a Legend

The 1971 Le Mans winner that this year's GPX competitor takes inspiration from was a legendary race car. And it was piloted to victory by two legendary drivers: Gijs van Lennep and Dr. Helmut Marko. van Lennep left his mark in endurance racing as well as Formula 1. And Marko's legacy in motorsports continues to grow as a top executive for Red Bull Racing's F1 team.

One Retro Look After Another

Amazingly, the GPX Porsche this year will be racing under the same number 22 that Marko and van Lennep drove half a century ago. The Martini livery will replace the team's famous Targa-Florio-inspired colors in which the team took the win at the 24 Hours of Spa race at the beautiful Belgian track. One iconic look in place of another.

Bottomless Well of Inspiration

GPX Racing team principal Pierre-Brice Mena was excited to show off the new look. “We are honored to bring these iconic colors back to life and to commemorate the Martini Racing Porsche 917’s victory in the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans,” he remarked. “For us, this is a bottomless well of inspiration at the very moment we’re planning to take on new sporting challenges and participate in the endurance racing battles of the future.”

Aiming For Success

The Dubai-based team will be hoping to kick the season off well, growing building upon the success they've accumulated over the past few years. "Beginning this new collaboration with ART Grand Prix is a very positive move for GPX Racing. Their immense experience will be very precious for us, in particular if we should decide to take up other endurance programmes in the near future. In the meantime, our aim is to win together this year,” Mena enthuses.
