At Long Last

It's been a long wait for those of us who consider ourselves fans of the legendary nameplate. But Porsche has finally unveiled the prototype of the Cayman GT4 RS. With that in mind, it won't be long before we find ourselves rolling out of the dealership lot... wishing we actually had the money to buy one. As reported by Car and Driver, this new Cayman GT4 RS promises to be quite the competitor.

All Hail the 718

The 718 Cayman GT4 RS is meant to be the pinnacle of the Cayman line. A lot of speculation surrounds the details of the GT4 RS. Many subscribe to the hopes that the Cayman will cram in a 500+ hp flat-six. With the RS being a track-focused model, it's not hard to imagine such impressive figures.

Gaining Speed

We already know that Porsche is packing something special in the GT4 as it set an impressive Nürburgring lap time at 7:09.3. Additionally, the Nordschleife was a whopping 23.6 seconds over the previous GT4 iteration. Whatever we end up seeing, we can be sure it'll be ripe for competition.

Three Is Better Than Two

Mated to that revamped power plant is most likely Porsche's PDK double-clutch transmission as evidenced by the paddle shifters. But of course, there's always the hope that it'll arrive at the dealer with three pedals. It's certainly the more entertaining option.

Athletic Shoes

In the photos, we can spot the famed yellow calipers indicative of Porsche's own carbon-ceramic brake setup. Furthermore, one of the few things we do know is part of the tire setup equation. GT4 RSs are expected to come with an option for Michelin Pilot Cup 2 R tires, which are street legal, but just barely. They are most definitely suited for extreme track use.

A Bold Look

Ultimately, this is only the first look. There are still a lot of unknowns with the latest rendition of the RS. But one thing we can say for certain, this vehicle looks the part. There's no denying that Porsche's prototype means business.
