All about suspension

When it comes to suspension shocks can give a huge advantage so Bilstein stepped in and mandated units for all cars to be class legal. Springs are interchangeable as are sway bars and the combination you use them in. Results will come from being a great driver and knowing how to properly setup suspension and align the car correctly.

So you want to buy

Typical ready to race cars sell for around the mid $20,000 range but can get more expensive depending on the level of racing you want to participate in. For affordable fun staying at a club level will provide the most bang for the buck and smiles per mile. PCA sees some real competition even at the regional level so you will have your work cut out for you as you run up the ladder.

Where to compete?

PCA, POC, and NASA all provide events for you to get out and race so it’s easy to find a venue close to you no matter where you are in the country. Various styles of racing are also held from enduros to sprint formats with sprint racing being much easier on equipment. Various organizations tolerate different levels of “rubbing is racing” which is something to be very conscious of before entering an event.

Pro Porsche

In comparison to a spec Miata, you have a bit more power. In comparison to spec E30, you get to race a mid-engine car as opposed to a front engine car. While there’s nothing wrong with either Spec Miata or Spec E30, neither of these series allow you to drive a car with the famous midship layout many race cars are famous for adopting. In racing one of these cars you get to feel a piece of more expensive purpose-built race cars for a fraction of the cost.

Final Thoughts

This is a great series if you’re new to racing and a great series if you’re a veteran of racing. By equalizing the playing field you focus more on driving technique and setup than throwing big horsepower or super sticky tires that give you a mechanical advantage. It provides a solid base for any racer who wants to move up in the future by allowing them to polish their technique. For more seasoned drivers it gives the chance to experience close racing and dice it up with old friends. All in all a great series that has something for everyone. Until next time…
