Celebrating Dia De Los Muertos with A Tribute to Celebrities We Lost

Some models of Porsche street cars have earned the infamous moniker of Widowmaker. While many other automobiles have had their fair share of fatal crashes, Porsche gets a lot more attention because of the many celebrities who have lost their lives either while riding in or driving one of these iconic cars. In the vein of being in line with the holiday of celebrating those that have gone before us, we have this list.

1. James Dean

On September 30, 1955, James was driving his $7000 Porsche Spyder convertible when he was T-boned by a Ford Tudor sedan. Although the sedan turned right in front of James, speed was not a factor as many believe. James was on his way to the track to race his "Little Bastard" Spyder when he lost his life in that fateful accident.

2. Ryan Dunn

Ryan Dunn, one of the stars of the "Jackass" series, died while driving his Porsche 911 GT3 at an estimated 110 mph on a Pennsylvania highway. While his speed was certainly a factor, his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

3. Paul Walker

One of the more infamous and recent deaths came when Paul Walker, one of the stars of the Fast and Furious movies was a passenger in his friend's Porsche Carrera GT. His friend Roger Roda, a former race car driver and Porsche dealer was driving the 2005 GT when it hit a tree and burst into flames. Both men were killed in the horrific crash. 4. Ben Hollioake

In March 2002, famous England cricket player, Ben Hollioake died when his Porsche 924 convertible spun off the road and crashed into a brick wall in Perth, Australia. His tragic story can be found here.

5. Pelle Lindbergh

The 26-year-old Philadelphia Flyers goalie, Pelle Lindbergh drove his red Porsche 930 into a brick wall in Somerdale. Although he had a blood alcohol content well above the legal limit, he teammates have stated that he loved to drive fast. He was pulled from life support in 1985 from his injuries sustained in his crash.

6. Bobby Phills

In January 2000, Bobby Phills, the Charlotte Hornets basketball player lost control of his 1997 Porsche 993 Cabriolet and slammed head-on into another car. He was estimated to be driving at over 100 mph when he lost his life in an instant.
