Kalmar's American Debut

Kalmar Automotive, renowned for its meticulous restomodding of Porsche 911s, is stepping into the U.S. market through a collaboration with California's Canepa. The Danish company's 7-97 Classic, particularly the 7-97 C1, is now available in North America. This partnership marks a significant milestone as Kalmar aims to captivate American enthusiasts with its unique blend of classic design and modern performance.

Tribute to a Racing Legend

The 7-97 range pays homage to the original 911 S/T from the 1970s and the victorious number 7 Porsche LMP from the 1997 24 Hours of Le Mans. This historical nod is evident in the 7-97 C1, which is crafted from either the 964 or 993 generation 911. The model on display at Canepa’s Scotts Valley showroom signifies the beginning of this exciting venture, with more units expected to arrive in the coming months.

Craftsmanship and Performance

Kalmar focuses on creating an engaging driving experience rather than just raw performance. The 7-97 C1, like its counterparts, showcases extreme attention to detail. Notable features include the removal of rain gutters from the donor 911 and a redesigned decklid, which reduces drag and wind noise. The body panels, primarily made from carbon fiber, contribute to a weight of just 2,500 pounds in the rear-wheel-drive version, with the all-wheel-drive model slightly heavier at 2,675 pounds.

Engine and Mechanical Specs

Powering the 7-97 C1 is an air-cooled 4.0-liter flat-6 engine producing 401 horsepower. This engine, featuring components like a 997 GT3 crankshaft and individual throttle bodies, is a testament to Kalmar's engineering prowess. Paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, the car promises an exhilarating drive. Additionally, adaptive suspension, carbon-ceramic brake rotors, and a traction control system with Sport mode enhance the car's performance capabilities.

Modern Interior

Inside, the 7-97 C1 blends luxury with modern amenities. The Recaro sports seats are leather-wrapped, extending to the door sills and front trunk. Modern conveniences include a Bluetooth audio system, rain-sensing wipers, power steering, and air conditioning.

Safety and Sophistication

Optional twin airbags with matching dashboard surfaces are also available, underscoring Kalmar’s commitment to safety and style. The key fob, designed exclusively for Kalmar, adds a touch of sophistication with its integrated buttons for opening the front luggage compartment and rear deck lid.

Limited Production

Kalmar's production is highly exclusive, with only 12 examples of the 7-97 built each year. This limited availability ensures that each car is a unique masterpiece, tailored to the customer’s specifications. The 7-97 C1, with its combination of heritage, performance, and modern luxury, is set to make a significant impact in the U.S. market. Enthusiasts can experience the 7-97 C1 firsthand at Canepa's showroom, with additional models expected to follow soon.
