1. 2018 Porsche 911 GTS

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will experience an eclipse of the sun. The total solar eclipse is one of nature's best sightings, and although everyone should enjoy the alignment of the sun and the moon, no one should look directly at the sun unless they wear a safety special-purpose solar filters, also known as eclipse glasses. On this wondrous day, the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun's tenuous atmosphere, called the corona, will be visible. This will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. If you're outside of this area, you will still be able to enjoy a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun.

If you're fortunate enough to drive a Porsche 911 GTS convertible, then be sure to put the top down and enjoy all of your 500-horsepower while safely looking at one of Mother Nature's most inspiring sights.

Warning: The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” (example shown at left) or hand-held solar viewers. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun; they transmit thousands of times too much sunlight.

If you're not a fan of the convertible, the solar eclipse experience would also be one-of-a-kind through a Porsche Cayenne's panoramic sunroof. There is nothing like enjoying some of nature's best in one of the most unique hybrids on the market, while still being capable of going from 0 to 60 mpg in just 5.4 seconds. For this feat, you can thank the 3.0-liter V-6 engine working collaboratively with Porsche's electric motor.

3. Porsche 718 Boxster

While the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, you may want to make your way from the office to your favorite lunch stop in your 718 Boxster. The only thing that can make the 350-horsepower convertible more exotic is if there is a natural phenomenon occurring as you go through all seven-speeds of your perfectly engineered Porsche.

4. Porsche Panamera

If you want to enjoy the solar eclipse through a stylish panoramic roof, the dynamic Panamera is the way to go. If you're lucky enough to drive the 2.9-liter V-6 Panamera with the twin-turbo and the eight-speed all-wheel drive transmission, then you are in for a treat. Thanks to the 440-horsepower engine, you will be able to get anywhere as quickly as you want to, so you have time to park and watch the rarities of nature. As soon as the Moon bids adieu to the Sun, you're guaranteed to hit the 60 mph mark in just 3.2 seconds.

5. Porsche 911 Carrera

It doesn't get much more fun than the Porsche 911 Carrera, but add the total solar eclipse to your day, and you are living in special times. The beautiful, unique sunroof of the Carrera provides the look of a solid roof panel, while giving you the freedom of quickly enjoying whatever the heavens have to offer.

6. Porsche Macan S

The Porsche Macan S is a nice place to be when nature does its thing, and thanks to the full-panel sunroof, this comfortable and luxurious cabin is all you need to enjoy the solar eclipse. However, when the time comes to get back to life back on Earth, you will have access to 340-horsepower to get you there. Talk about a natural phenomenon.

7. Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

Regardless of the Porsche you have, the solar eclipse is a sight not to be missed. Of course, if you have the Cayenne Turbo S, you will have much more fun than most people on the road, thanks to the 4.8-liter V-8 twin turbo engine that delivers 520-horsepower. But enough about power. What's important is the company you keep. And your company has never been more fun than it is when in a Porsche.

The only time the Sun can be viewed safely with the naked eye is during a total eclipse when the Moon completely covers the disk of the Sun. It is never safe to look at a partial or annular eclipse, or the partial phases of a total solar eclipse, without the proper equipment and techniques.
