Modern Makeover

While we come across all sorts of automotive-based renderings on a daily basis these days, one of the most popular themes we've seen is modernizing old cars. Sometimes, artists focus on making new versions of old race cars, a truly tantalizing idea that never gets old, at least in our humble opinion. The latest example of why this is such a popular idea comes to us from Alan Derosier, who recently decided to give the Porsche 917K a modern makeover.

Personal Favorite

Derosier calls the 917 "one of my favorite cars of all-time," and that's certainly an understandable sentiment. After all, we are talking about the car that gave Porsche its first overall wins at Le Mans back in 1970 and 1971, one was undeniably beautiful and capable of reaching speeds of up to 240 mph on the track. The 917 is one of the most celebrated models in Porsche's illustrious history, which is why even the automaker has toyed with the idea of making a new version.

New Face

While it's hard to update something as iconic as the 917, Derosier does a fine job here, retaining the car's legendary lines while adding a few new Porsche styling cues to the mix. That starts up front with a totally new front fascia containing some modern Porsche LED headlights and a massive front spoiler, with huge air intakes built right in.

Track to Street

This "new" 917 rolls on a set of center-lock wheels that were once reserved only for race cars, but in recent years, have become increasingly popular on Porsche road cars, too. They may not serve many purposes on the street since they were mostly designed to be quick and easy to swap out at the track, but they look cool, regardless.

Feasible for Production?

This smoothed-out, modernized take on the timeless Porsche 917 certainly looks like a feasible machine that the automaker could very well be cranking out in limited numbers today. That's probably not likely to happen, but one can always dream, no?
