An Electric Supercar of a Different Sort (Photos)
The original 910 had a 2.0-liter flat six engine, but now there's something far more futuristic inside the classic. The Kreisel 910e will not be held back by time.
1. A classic reborn
Kreisel Electric GmbH is selling a 1960s racing superstar with a whole new delicious electric motor. Dubbed the Electric Kreisel EVEX 910e, this yellow Porsche was a co-star to Steve McQueen in the feature film Le Mans back in 1971. The car has been reworked by three Austrailian brothers out of a garage to run completely on electricity.

2. Three brothers and a garage
The car came about when Kreisel Electric partnered with the German classic car brand EVEX Fahrzeugbau to bring back the famed limited edition car. Markus Kreisel, the director of the company and middle brother, remarks that this will be the first historical Porsche of its nature to be legal for use on public roads.

3. An electrified icon
Kreisel brothers Johann, Markus, and Phillipp were making battery packs and drivetrains for plug-in cars, boats, and airplanes. Working under the name "E-Mobility Maniacs," the brothers would tour trade shows until they convinced conventional car companies to check out and test drive their work.

4. Major sticker shock
The car has a range of 218 miles and does the trek from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. The top speed clocks in at over 186 mph as this electric version has more than double the power of the original gasoline model. The company plans on producing a handful of these amazing cars with a price tag of $1.1 million.

5. Tesla alternative?
This is not Kreisel's first electric Porsche rodeo as last year the company took the Panamera and tinkered with it until they produced a car that could match and in some cases beat a Tesla S. Kreisel says it patented laser-welding and thermal-cooling techniques that gave them a leg up on Tesla when it came to preserving the full-power allowable in lithium-ion cells.
