Chance of a Lifetime

A couple of years ago, Lanzante Limited teamed up with O’Gara Coach and F1 driver/artist Stefan Johansson to create something truly unique - a Porsche 930 911 Turbo model with a custom paint job by Johansson himself, though what lurked under the hood was far more intriguing. That, in fact, is the very same engine present in the McLaren MP4/3 F1 racer that Johansson piloted in the 1987 Austrian Grand Prix. Now, someone has the chance of a lifetime, as this special F1-powered 911 is up for sale at Pagani of Beverly Hills.

Ultra Rare

Aside from making its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this special 911 has also been displayed at the O'Gara Coach pavilion during The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, and perhaps more notably, is one of just 11 examples produced in total. Of course, this may very well be the most special of that bunch, given the history between its engine and the original owner.

Road Legal Racer

Obviously, making an F1 engine work in a road-legal car while providing a pleasant driving experience isn't easy, given its need to make power insanely high in the rev range. Regardless, this 911 is precisely that, as its turbocharged 1.5L TAG powerplant is actually quite tame to drive on the road - as well as rather entertaining.

Multiple Brands

These F1 engines were sourced directly from McLaren, but featured branding from Techniques d'Avant Garde (TAG), which is best known for making the TAG-Heuer watches. However, Porsche actually developed the engine in-house itself, which makes this combination a bit more sensible in the grand scheme of things.

Dialed Down

As far as making the F1 powerplant feasible for road use, another company - Cosworth - stepped in to help with that endeavor, fitting it with smaller turbos, dialing down the boost, and tweaking the air-fuel ratio. Regardless, it's still a solid powerhouse with an output of around 503 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.

Million Dollar Ride

Of course, given the fact that this car reportedly cost $1.45 million when new, we aren't surprised that Pagani of Beverly Hills hasn't listed an asking price for it now that it's got just over 100 miles on the clock. Regardless, for anyone who's ever wanted what amounts to a street-legal F1 car, well, they don't get much closer than this.
