1. An almost real replica

The Spyder 550 is a car that can only be had by the very well-heeled enthusiasts the world over but if you've had dreams of owning one, then you'll be happy to know that is now a real possibility. Seduction Motorsports out in Chandler, AZ, is a distributor for complete "kits," "Rolling Chassis," and "Turnkey" replica race cars of the 1950's.

2. The next best thing

For the past four years, the shop has been perfecting the reproductions of the storied car called the 550 Spyder. With a starting price around $45,000 for a basic model, you can have a car that has been meticulously created and has a good number of modern comforts. The company has even built a special one-off version of this Spyder that is aluminum bodied that went for close to $200,000.

3. What makes it special

The car's fiberglass body is paired with a powder coated steel frame more than perfectly capable of handling the 230 horsepower that the turbo water-cooled Subaru engine puts out. The car also has a CNC aluminum shifter, emergency brakes, disc brakes, a Magnaflow exhaust for more rumble, and a custom shock/spring set for the car to ride comfortably over all of our modern day road hazards. If you so desire, you can even add heated bucket seats and custom upholstery choices.

4. Attention to detail

Seduction Motorsports owner Daniel Verwers remarks that the building of the 550 Spyder and their other kits are a meticulous process where they have full confidence that you will not only enjoy their products but also have the piece of mind that you won't be calling the company 10 times a year to replace things. He goes on to say that a number of their clients are engineers that appreciate the design, materials, and craftsmanship that goes into these cars. One repeat customer of Seduction is Intel CEO Brain Krzanich who has purchased 5 of the 42 cars made.

5. If you'd like a 550 of your own

After finishing the movie Giant, James Dean went out one fateful night and crashed his 550 Spyder resulting in his death and cementing his status as a forever young movie star. Dean's tragic passing aside, the 550 Spyder was, and is, one of the most celebrated cars in Porsche history. While maintaining the old school styling of the original, Seduction has added the appeal of gauges and knobs made from aluminum and stainless steel.
