This $55k kit is a far cheaper way to get your hands on the highly coveted 935, or at least own a 911 that looks like one.

Supreme Style

The slantnose Porsche was once a cool creation, but these days, that style plays second fiddle to the stock 911's front end design. Regardless, we can't help but admire the work being done to this 996 over at Crucible Coachworks. Crucible is in the process of developing its own 935 slantnose conversion, which promises to offer supreme style for a cost starting out at around $55,000.

Unique Style

Crucible's conversion kit doesn't just accurately replicate the 935, however, and instead takes its own path to creating a unique looking, race car inspired machine. Judging by the renderings provided of what the finished product will look like, whoever winds up purchasing this car or the kit will get a seriously cool, modernized 996.

Race Car Inspired

Aside from the slantnose conversion, this kit adds some wider bodywork with a new front lip, side skirts, and rear fenders, along with a massive custom rear spoiler. The finished product will certainly look like a car that was bred from the 935, albeit with more modern lines covering that vintage sheetmetal.

Solid Alternative

There is some seriously impressive fabrication going on here with car #001, which will eventually be offered up for sale once it's completed. The idea here is to once again reinvent the much-maligned 996, a car that features polarizing styling elements that have largely turned off the 911 faithful and collectors alike.

Reimagined Bodywork

From what we've seen so far, it certainly looks like Crucible is on the right track. That's especially true when we take a peek at the renderings of the finished product, which depict a seriously cool remake of the 996's controversial front end, this time inspired by a conversion from the 911's past.

Worth the Wait

Though 996s aren't quite as cheap as they used to be, we imagine that one could still build a pretty sweet widebody slantnose 935 tribute using this kit for less than $100k, which isn't terrible considering how cool and unique it is. In the meantime, we look forward to watching this project enter its final stages of development, because we think the finished product is going to be worth the wait.
