Progress

Vale Automotive announced its plans to produce a Porsche GT1-inspired body kit for the 986 Boxster some time ago, even providing renderings of what this offering might look like. Now, the company is well on its way to creating the very first of these kits before it can enter actual production and has been posting progress on this project via its Instagram page.

Inspired By

Vale is a limo building company by trade, but its owner - Shimie Moore - has long dreamed of creating a 986-based GT1 replica, since the real thing is essentially impossible to obtain thanks to its exorbitant price and extreme rarity. But in this case, Moore is creating a look that's inspired by the GT1, but not an exact replica by any means.

Budget Sports Car to Racer

The result is a very cool and exotic look with headlights that look a lot like the 918 Spyder's, a roof-mounted air intake, and a super-long tail that makes the humble first-gen Boxster look more race car than entry-level sports car.

Multiple Options

Moore plans to produce 33 of these kits once he's got all the details hammered out, which interested customers can slap on their vehicle in a number of ways - by either doing it themselves or having Vale do it for them. Additionally, Moore is in talks with some other automotive shops to farm out this work, too.

More Complicated

As for the body panels themselves, some are direct bolt-ons, while others are bonded to the Boxster's existing bodywork. None of the car's original structure is modified during that process, but this is obviously not a job that some novice might want to take on.

Variety of Powertrains

For now, the stock 3.2-liter flat-six from the Boxster S is what will power this particular rig, but Moore wants to eventually offer a host of upgrades in that department as well. He envisions customers being able to buy anything from a Porsche mill to an LS swap and even EV conversions.

Coming Soon?

Pricing for the bodywork along will come in at around $13,000, with installation obviously costing a bit more. Moore plans to begin shipping the kits this month, though it's unclear if that process has begun just yet. Regardless, this is one seriously cool idea that deserves to come to fruition.
