Only One

There have been many Porsches made over the years that one could call "rare," but how many vehicles on the planet hold the distinction of being a true one-of-one? Certainly not many, and that makes this 911 Classic Club Coupe rather special, as it was built for the Porsche Club of America (PCA) under the newly launched Porsche Sonderwunsch program by Porsche Classic.

Project Gray

It took a total of two and a half years to put together this special 996-gen 911, an idea that arose during a meeting between representatives of the Porsche Club of America and Alexander Fabig, now Head of Individualization and Classic at Porsche, as well as designer Grant Larson of Style Porsche. To keep it secret, the vehicle was known internally as "Project Gray."

Inspired Build

The main source of inspiration for the 911 Classic Club Coupe was the 911 Sport Classic (Type 997) that launched back in 2009. With Sport Classic Grey paintwork, a double-dome roof, ducktail, and exclusive interior details, this limited series quickly gained cult status and has long been a sought-after collector’s item.

Accented

The Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe is finished in Sport Grey Metallic, with twin stripes running across the hood, roof, and rear spoiler that are painted light Sport Grey with Club Blue pinstriping on the outside. The hockey-stick-shaped side trim is painted light Sport Grey and bears the words "Classic Club Coupe" and a line in Club Blue.

Finishing Touches

Meanwhile, the double-dome roof pays tribute to a common feature found in race cars, while a fixed rear spoiler made from glass-fiber-reinforced plastic takes the shape of the legendary "ducktail" from the 1972 911 RS 2.7 and features a built-in third brake light. The car rolls on a set of 18-inch forged wheels designed to look like legendary Fuchs pieces as a nice finishing touch.

Impressive Threads

As is usually the case with fine custom Porsches, the interior of the 911 Classic Club Coupe is also a work of art with plenty of impressive touches and finishes. Some of the highlights here include stainless steel door sill trims, black and slate gray leather, partially-perforated Alcantara, Pepita houndstooth, custom instrumentation, and Porsche's Classic Communication Management Plus system with a 7-inch touchscreen.

Sleek and Natural

"The Type 996 is unjustly overshadowed by the other 911 ranges. That's why we were happy to choose it as the basis for demonstrating all the things we can do with Porsche Classic and the recently expanded Sonderwunsch program of Porsche AG," said Alexander Fabig, Head of Individualization and Classic. "With this one-off, we've now managed to bring a similarly exciting vehicle concept to the U.S. as well."

"We wanted to work together to create something unique that would generate enthusiasm," added Tom Gorsuch, President of the Porsche Club of America (PCA). "The fact that the finished Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe looks so sleek and natural is what's really incredible about this challenging project."
