1. Strategy

The new Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid's strategy is modeled after the Porsche 918 Spyder, meaning its goal is speed. The Panamera's new 2.9-litre V-6 biturbo engine is paired with an electric motor that delivers an additional 136 hp for a total of 462 hp. Porsche sees their "E-Performance" model of more power but less fuel consumption as the "performance kit of the future."

2. Pedal Harmony

On the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid's predecessor, the driver needed to press the pedal down at least 80 percent of the way in order to unleash the additional electric drive power. Now, the electric motor and engine are fully synced, so much so that there's no need for this step. Similar to the 918 Spyder, the Panamera 4 will have this additional electric motor power right from the get go.

3. New Electro-hydraulic System

Another new feature involves the electro-hydraulic system. The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid has a decoupler that is actuated electro-mechanically by an ECA, or electric clutch actuator. This feature will result in shorter response times.

4. Charging System

The electric motor in the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid gets its power through a lithium-ion battery, the weight of which has remained the same yet its energy content has increased. The driver can begin the charging process, which takes less than 6 hours, using either the PCM or the Porsche Car Connect smartphone and Apple Watch app! What's better, auxiliary air conditioning will cool or heat the interior while the car is charging, so that by the time you enter the cabin, the temperature will be customized to your liking.

5. Hybrid-specific Modes

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid has four unique modes: E-Power, Hybrid Auto, E-Hold, and E-Charge. The car's default start mode is in E-Power. Hybrid Auto is entirely new and allows the car to change and combine drive sources. E-Hold mode entails a conservation charge system that allows for tighter control. Lastly, E-Charge mode charges the battery from the V6 engine. Models equipped with the Sport Chrono Package also have the standard Sport and Sport Plus modes.
