1. It's The Fastest Production Four Door Sedan in Existence

Obviously, the greatest virtue of the new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is the incredible speed and performance it provides. Packing 680 hp and 626 lb-ft of combined peak power from its hybrid powertrain, the top of the line Panamera will do 0-60 mph in only 3.3 seconds, complete the quarter mile in around 11.6 seconds, and top out at 193 miles per hour. Those are some impressive numbers for any car, let alone a heavy four door luxury sedan with plenty of room for your family and cargo.

2. It Handles Amazingly Well

Sure, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is fast in a straight line, but what how does it handle the corners? Despite weighing an incredibly hefty 5,200-5,400 pounds, the answer is as good as you expect from a Porsche. Car & Driver took a spin in one recently, and noted that the big four door managed 1.50+ g's while cornering around a race track and 1.00+ g's under braking. They also marveled at the E-Hybrid's agility, something you would never expect from a car this heavy.

3. Its Drivetrain is Incredibly Capable

Obviously, if you want a heavy car to go fast, you need a drivetrain with serious performance chops. And the Turbo S E-Hybrid has exactly that - a twin turbocharged and intercooled 4.0 liter V8 produces 550 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque. But wait, there's more! The gas engine works in unison with a permanent magnet, synchronous AC electric motor that produces an additional 136 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and that torque come in at zero rpm. That's enough oomph to rocket the E-Hybrid off the line with authority. With launch control engaged, you'll feel 1.30 g's of force slamming you back in those comfy seats.

4. It Does More Than Just Go Fast

Sure, speed and handling are nice and all, but people don't buy a four door Porsche for that reason alone. Buyers also expect cutting edge technology and luxury car comfort, and they get both from the top of the line Panamera. Inside, you'll find luxuries like four zone climate control, highly adjustable leather bucket seats, dual panel sunroof, and a plethora of touchscreens and controls for each passenger that provide a whopping 6,000 different functions.

5. It Signals a New Era For Porsche

The arrival of the Panamera S E-Hybrid signals a big change moving forward for Porsche. Turbocharged gas engine models used to be top of the heap in regards to performance, but now hybrid models will take over that distinction. This won't be the most popular decision among purists, but the advantages of hybrid performance are undebatable. Electric power produces torque from zero rpm, and can nicely fill in the low end while the gas motor and turbo get spooled up. Regardless, it made sense to start this dramatic shift with the Panamera instead of the 911, which stands to get its own hybrid model soon.
