Reliving the Past

Each year, amid the summer heat, the Porsche Heritage and Museum department brings out some amazing vintage vehicles for the annual Solitude Revival, which focuses on the 1950s-1980s and the world of motorsports. This year's event attracted over 400 vehicles in total, with each of them reliving the past by hitting the track near Porsche's home in Stuttgart.

Old and New

That lineup included a 996 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which was driven by two-time rally world champion Walter Röhrl. Equipped with a naturally aspirated engine and six-speed manual gearbox, the 996 GT3 RS was a homologation model, but now, it's powered by renewable fuels for the first time. In this case, the fuel is petrol based on an advanced biofuel made from food waste products.

Trio of Treats

That machine was joined by a 911 Carrera RSR 2.8, driven by Laurin Heinrich. Porsche built 55 copies of this Gran Turismo racing car, which won three international and seven national championships in 1973. Timo Bernhard piloted the Porsche 718 Formula 2, while the Porsche 804 Formula 1 hit the track with Le Mans- and World Endurance Championship-winner Marc Lieb behind the wheel.

Special Cars

Porsche also brought along a 911 Carrera RS 2.7, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and was once the fastest road sports car of its time. It was joined by the lightweight Porsche 356 B 2000 GS Carrera GTL Abarth that is fitted with a handcrafted aluminum body.

Better Gas

Despite all this vintage goodness, Porsche didn't leave its modern offerings out of the mix, as it brought along a Cayenne Turbo GT, one Macan T, and two 718 Cayman GT4 models, all powered by an advanced biofuel called reFuel, while the automaker also touted its renewal fuels in use in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

Decades of Excellence

Each year, the Solitude Revival presents an exhibition of historic racing and road vehicles on the former Solitude circuit near Stuttgart. Almost six decades after the last Solitude race, the former circuit, which consists of public roads closed for the occasion, has lost none of its fascinating character.

Still Impressing

Aside from historically significant Porsche racers, this year's exhibition included everything from racing motorcycles and sidecars dating back to 1979 to racing and sports cars as old as 1947, racing sports cars and prototypes from 1948 to 1981, GT and touring cars from 1948 to 1981, and Formula racing cars from 1948 to 1981. And as always, it didn't fail to impress with the sheer quality and quantity of vehicles present, either.
